Dave Price is right

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 15th 2006 4:00PM

Dave PriceVerne Gay over at Newsday is reporting that Dave Price, the weatherman/cohost on CBS' The Early Show, is going to replace Bob Barker as host of The Price Is Right. He says he heard the news from a trusted source and that it's "definite."

Price will stay with The Early Show while doing the game show every day. I know, you're thinking, but The Price Is Right is filmed in Los Angeles and The Early Show is in New York City. He'll pre-tape the game show on Fridays and do The Early Show live the other days.

No idea how I feel about this. I don't watch The Early Show that much and I've only seen Price a couple of times, so I don't really have an opinion of Price. Though I think this is probably the first time in history that the name of the game is also the name of the host, and that's kinda funky.

I like Dave Price but he is going to have a hard time filling the shoes of Bob Barker. I can't imagine the show without our Bob Barker. But I wish Dave good luck I will still watch the show, but I know ahead of time I will miss Bob. And to Bob God Bless you.

I've said it before, when Price was a local weatherman and I will say it again. Dave Price = Milhouse Van Houten.

Something's wrong here. Not that I'm doubting the reliability of the source, but I don't see how they could possibly get by taping the show just one day per week.

Last time I checked, it takes nearly a full week to tape a week's worth of episodes. At most, they might be able to pull off three shows a day, but because of the large number of prizes and pricing game props that have to move in and out of the studio, not to mention the time involved in the interviews they do with every audience member to choose their contestants, even three shows a day would make for a rough day for the production staff.

As the old saying goes, there are only so many hours in a day...

There was a game show where the game and the host were the same before... Win Ben Stein's Money. Of course, if the producers called it anything else they'd have to find themselves a new host, wouldn't they?

Don't like it at all.

He'd be a great host for shows like "Match Game," "Hollywood Squares," and even "Family Feud." But TPIR would not be a good fit for him and he would not be a good fit for the show. He can be too...wacky sometimes. TPIR doesn't need wacky, they need somebody who will make the contestants and the show look good while also keeping the show on a fast pace.

I hope this is not true because this looks more like a marriage of convenience (he already works for CBS) rather then the right choice.

This would be like Jay Leno replacing Johnny Carson all over again.

I used to watch Dave when he worked for CBS in Chicago (I believe). He made watching the morning news both entertaining and informative. I was sad to see him go.

If anyone can make The Price is Right watchable, Dave can. But it does seem wrong for someone co-anchoring a morning show to host a game show at the same time. (Don't get me started about Meredith V.)

Makes me wonder why he's taking the gig. They must pay well.

I wonder how taping is going to work for Real Time with Bill Maher. They tape Fridays at 8 PM in the Bob Barker studio. It is the largest studio with 300+ seats.

That would be a quick turnaround, especially if TPIR wants to tape 4-5 shows in one day.

It is a conspiracy. He changed his last name just so that should Bob Barker quit, he would be named host.

Sneaky Bastard.
