Goodbye Show Me The Money

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 15th 2006 4:29PM

Show Me The MoneyThis isn't really a surprise: ABC has canceled the William Shatner game show Show Me The Money.

Even though game shows are all the rage now, especially ones hosted by celebs known for other things (Shatner, Howie Mandel, Bob Saget, Penn Jillette), no one really seemed to care about Show Me The Money, and the ratings for this past week's show were the lowest yet. The network actually ordered more episodes, but they won't be shown either (though I guess we'll have to wait to see how long it takes for the shows to show up on ABC's site, though I bet even that's a long shot).

Did anyone even watch this? I like Shatner, but this held no appeal to me. I fear the same thing about Identity, Jillette's new show. I like Jillette, but this show just seems lame and random. Guessing what other people do for work or what has happened to them by looking at them? Yawn. Looks like Deal Or No Deal, only without the beautiful models and human beings instead of shiny suitcases.

Thats too bad. I know it wasnt as good at Deal or No Deal or even 1vs100, but I kinda liked it.

I loved this show, wasn't crazy about it on the first show but kept watching and it was really entertaining. Somethimes you just have to give things a second chance.

I really enjoyed Show Me the Money. Would have liked it more if they'd had more questions on topics other then celebrities, etc., but enjoyed the questions and that the contestants had to answer questions to win the big money. I enjoyed William Shatner--thought he was very funny. Wish they'd screened the contestants and kept the screamers and those with the low IQ's off the air. Hope ABC brings the show back.

I really didn't mind this show but the dancing girls were a little degrading to women. I always wanted to scream "sluts" to them but I know that it was just what they were paid to do...but in SUPER short skirts/dresses...and dancing to poles...a little too bad for my taste. But Shatner was fun and I'm glad it was a game where people actually had to think to win money. :)

Our family thoroughly enjoyed Show Me The Money.
The contestants had a chance to win some decent cash.
There was some degree of skill involved. Unlike Deal Or No Deal, participants had to answer trivia questions to advance or succeed.
ABC should bring it back. There is an audience for this type of show.

I have enjoyed all these TV shows. It was fun to see someone win some money. Its better than watching some gruesome shows with killing and raping women, seeing blood all over, whether it was catsup or not is not what turns me on. I like talk shows as well.Merry Christmas everyone.

I'm sad to hear that Daybreak and Show Me The Money are canned. I really don't watch any other tv program but got interested in these 2 once Lost stopped. I also like The Nine. It's too bad that networks seem to think that 49 year olds are interested in comedy and old reruns. Shatner was okay and I could live with the dancing girls and all; I found that the contestants were the main reason for watching; they had to be funny and spontaneous and usually do something funny. Too bad that I'm now back to watching dvd's with my 58 year old husband.

I thought that Show Me The Money went downhill after watching Wednesday's show. The woman didn't know the answers to the questions, she ended up with the killer card and she later ended up with nothing. And no "lovely parting gifts" like floor wax, a longtime game show haven. Current game shows have stopped that approach to avoid embarrassment or chessiness. I didn't really like the show's format to start with. It looked more like a music video full of choreographed dancers than a game show. What were ABC's people thinking when they were throwing this show on. Jealous of Deal or No Deal's massive success on NBC that they want to capitalize on it? Right now, Deal or No Deal is what most people like to watch, no one else. At least it cuts down on Endemol productions' workload. Three shows on two networks was too many. I think that there' so much you can do with getting people to win big money. Most of these new shows have a hard time getting contestants to win a million dollars to start with--those contestants always fall in a trap and win much less. And the massive rock concert-like sstage sets with lots of lights get to be too much of the same. I think that Bob Saget is doing a good job with 1 vs 100 and keeps a cool, calm posture other than the hyperactive Howie Mandel on DOND. But Shatner was a lousy host and didn't seem very much into it. Sorry if this post is too long, but I wanted to explain the failures big time. ABC needs to put more of their money on their sitcoms and dramas and stay out of the game show business. If they're doing so well with Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy and Ugly Betty, then they should stick with that! Lastly, the only thing I like about Show was their catchy theme song--had me dancing every time, but the rest of the show never kept me hooked.

It was pretty terrible. Amazing that the audience tired of it so quickly. Basically I think people were curious to see "Denny Crane" run a gameshow. Once the newness wore off, they stopped watching.

If anyone thought this show would last - raise their hands - didn't think so! Now lets get rid of most of the other garbage games shows and put some real shows on.
