FX's new promo for The Shield -- VIDEO

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Dec 18th 2006 8:02PM

Vic and Shane at Lem's grave. For those of you who don't keep up with Nip/Tuck, then you probably weren't watching last week's season finale. That would also mean that you missed out on seeing the phenomenal new promo for The Shield.

It's lengthy too. At almost a minute long and set to a very cool song ("This Night" by Black Lab according to this message board), the promo takes you through the skies of LA before it settles on Vic and Shane standing in front of Lem's grave. Sends chills down my spine. With Dirt premiering in January though, we probably won't see The Shield return until April. This is the second promo that FX has aired for the new season too. The first aired earlier this year during the premiere of Rescue Me.

Thanks to reader DanMacMan for pointing this out to us. You can watch the video after the jump.

YES ! The Shield is the best TV show I have ever seen. The thought of it ending is sad enough but we have the thought that two more season exist before the demise. The writers have done an awesome job with this show, the actors have created an edge of the seat thriller. My own personal preferences would be to see many more seasons. The creator of the show did not want to see it end with a weak note, but rather to leave before the story got diluted......my suggestion.......the series becomes a continued fight between Aceveda ("I don't answer to you on Cinco de Mayo") and Vic and his team while the Strike Team continues to have the high life and run Farmington from within the jail system. Now that would be interesting to watch Vic and the team corrupt the entire prison system.......more than it is already that is. lol. I can't wait to see which direction it takes......the popcorn will be popping.

'The Shield' Stays on FX's Force
Network orders final season of series for '07-'08
June 5, 2006

Michael Chiklis on 'The Shield'LOS ANGELES -- FX has decided to keep Vic Mackey on the beat a little while longer.

The network has ordered a seventh and final season of "The Shield" for late 2007 or early 2008. The pickup extends the life of the show for 13 more episodes; prior to Monday's announcement, it was thought the series, FX's first original drama, would end early next year.

"It has been the privilege of everyone at FX to work with [creator] Shawn Ryan, [star] Michael Chiklis and their colleagues on 'The Shield,'" says John Landgraf, president of FX. "It has always been our intent to have the show exit television as it entered, as one of the best drama series ever. We're thrilled Shawn has come up with a great way to end the series and that it will require one final season for his vision to reach completion."

'The Shield' Showcard
When "The Shield" began its fifth season in January, it was widely assumed that it was entering its final season. In fact, the 10 episodes FX is now referring to as "season six" were originally conceived as a continuation of season five, following the "Sopranos" model of scheduling.

However, Ryan says, "The writers and I weren't quite ready to step away from these characters just yet. We asked FX for an additional 13 episodes to conclude the show properly and, as always, the network graciously let us do what we thought was best for the show."

Emmy winner Chiklis, who plays the amoral Detective Mackey, and the rest of the regular cast will return for both seasons. Forest Whitaker, who played a dogged Internal Affairs cop in season five, will reprise his role a few times next season.

Season six of "The Shield" will air early next year, and production on the final episodes will begin in mid-2007.

Tracy, I think the site you are referencing is from two seasons ago. So the hunt for the start of season 6 goes on.

I missed the promo but from the sounds of things the shield needs to hurry and return. This is by far the best show on tv.

Man this is a dam tease!!!!!!!! I have been tearing up my TV Guide to find out when Season 6 starts!!! This is so unfair, I dont want to see the last episode of Season seven because that will mean the end to a great show!!!! Come on folks, lets plead with FX to see if they can keep this series going past season 7

season 5 dvd set is coming march 27 so next season is expected until april, which sucks because i was hoping for it in january like they usually do. I am sursprised FX isnt airing old episodes, so i went out and bought seasons 1-4. This is by far the best show on tv, who cares about dirt or courtney cox. I am counting down the days until season 6. In an earlier report Michael Chiklis says season 6 will be 'shakepearean" and a tv critic who got to see an early viewing of the pilot says this is true and the show will go to a whole new level. I cant wait!!!

Watch again to the 'falling into the grave' sequence. the grave is double wide and the both fall forward. watch their heads, they stay level with each other as they fall in
