All Keith wants for Festivus

by Keith McDuffee, posted Dec 19th 2006 11:05AM
buffy season 8As a big gadget and techno geek, I've got enough things on my wish list to cover many pages and many years on this site, but as you've no doubt already noticed with these lists here, "what we want for Festivus" covers an entirely different kind of list. Here are a few of my picks for this holiday season.

A satisfying Buffy Season 8 -- The first issue is due out in March, and as any fan of the Buffy series knows, Joss is very involved in the writing for this series. I'm just really hoping it lives up to what fans would expect from a true season eight TV season, leading to possibly more within the true canon of the series.

House to stop with the season-long plot -- This is one show that absolutely does not need a long plot to carry us through the season. Really it's able to have each episode stand on its own, and often times the season-long plot just distracts us from what's going on in the episode at hand. Either get rid of that long plot or, at the very least, find us one that we want to see unfold.

Veronica Mars to be given a chance at season four -- People attached to the show are worried that it may not make it to another season, and I'm hoping with the changes creator Rob Thomas has in mind for the rest of the series (i.e., no more multi-episode mysteries), the network will give it a chance to prove itself more. Personally I hate the idea of no season-long mystery, as the show doesn't quite stand on its own like the above mentioned House does. Though I'm absolutely up for giving it a try.

American Idol to fizzle out of existence -- Seriously, this is just a personal view, so don't take this to heart when thinking TV Squad in general. I watch this show every season, and yet I still want to see it go away. Why? Because I think it's overexposed and a bit full of itself. Still, fans look forward to it every year and seek out in droves for the latest info on their favorite contestants, and we're here to accommodate. Again. I seriously doubt I'll see this gift under my Festivus pole this year.

A Battlestar Galactica set visit -- Come on now, how frakking cool would it be to see the set interiors of the Galactica and the Base Stars? Of course I'd share every intricate detail with you readers, and would make it seem as close as possible that you were there, too. You bet your ass I'm going to work to make this happen.

A site redesign for TV Squad -- I'm told by the suits that this is something that we will see, and I'm praying for sooner than later. A new logo, a wider design, better layout overall, threaded comments (and login/password ability for returning commenters), and more I'll leave as a surprise. Got anything you'd like to see improved site-design wise?

Win Time Magazine's 'Person of the Year' award -- Uh, check?

House - Enough with the Detective Tritter crap already!

American Idol - I hope the bombshell is that it's cancelled, gone, disappeared...

BSG Set Visit - Only if you bring all of us or at least video the whole thing and stream it online.

Site Redesign - This is the one I hope comes true the most of all. Please re-design. I've sent my thoughts via the comments link a good while back.

Regarding the Stars - I'm still down by 1 star guys! T'aint much, but it's mine, ALL MINE!! Gimme...

Regarding site design, is the star rating system up and running and how do you assign star ratings?

I also like the idea of notification when a reply is posted to your comment. It incentivises (sp?) commenting.

Design idea: How about email notification on said threaqded comments, so you know when someone has replied to your comment? Makes for some fun back and forth!

Those are good ones.
I'm completly with you on the first four.
I would certainly like 5 and 6, and of course have achieved 7 also.
I'd personally expand American Idol to include X-Factor (I'm in Northern Ireland), and Big Brother.
I really dislike all those type shows, but they're defintely the worst!
