Kat McPhee sings without a net

Katherine McPheeHow's this for a wacky trend - singers performing at live televised events without lip-syncing? American Idol competitor Katharine McPhee is pulling a reverse Ashlee Simpson at the Rose Parade this coming New Year's Day. She'll be singing from a float live - without a guiding vocal track or, heck, anything but what God gave her coming out over the airwaves.

McPhee will be riding the "Clean Water" float. Standing in a lush garden setting between a "giant leaping frog" and a working faucet dumping 400 gallons of water per minute, she'll spread McPheever through the streets of Pasadena. You know, I'm actually not all that bothered to find out when people are lip-syncing. The demands of television production sometimes require it. Would you blame Katharine for not wanting to sing live from atop of moving vehicle with a giant frog straddling her head? I should hope not.

Kate's voice was well below average at the rose parade....(even worse than at the Bocelli concert where she was completely out of her league) I found it very amusing that she had to stand next to a frog... I guess after a while you start sounding like one... Think twice before wasting your money on her upcoming cd... If you cannot help it, just buy her picture... It will remain silent...

Wow! you people are confused...Katharine will NOT be lip-synching. She will be the FIRST artist in the history of the Rose Parade to sing LIVE. What a feat!

Congrats Kat!!!

No, she will not be "lip sinking". What are you guys, 9? Taylor Hicks can't sing on key to save his life, that's why he's no performing live. He'll be forgotten in two weeks, while Daughtry will remain at the top of the charts, sharing that spot with Katherine when her album is released. Sorry Taylor, you're 15 minutes are up.

Yeah, right. Pay top dollar to hear a concert and some star stands there pretending to sing. If a singer has booked so many concerts that his or her voice isn't up to the demand, sounds to me like that star doesn't give a damn about the fans, just the money. What next? Stars employing lip-synching body doubles because they partied too much to do a concert, or if they want to appear in more than one city on a given night? Think of the money making opportunity in that!

Lynn- I am glad you said that. There IS at least one former Idol alum that has never lipsynched a performance and offers an excellent performance each time. Now that Kat does it we shoud all be jumping for joy?! If ya' got the pipes, you should not need the help of vocal tracks or anything else. . .just sing!

Let's see who should I believe...some random person saying stuff on the Internet or people like Andrea Bocelli, David Foster or Rod Stewart when it comes to knowing who can sing? Tough call. People with Grammys overflowing in their trophy cases or people on the Internet who seem to live to trash this girl?

If you don't like Katharine, that's fine. But lay off on the ignorant garbage. It just makes you look foolish.

Look, kathrine and the rest of the idol winners, with the exception of kelly clarkson have no talent. If you want to hear a real singer that can sound good every night no matter how many nights in a row they have sang, listen to thom yorke from radiohead or chris martin from coldplay. They both sound great live and Thom yorke hits notes that no idol winner has or can.Thom york live sounds like your listening to a cd,hes perfect.Thats why most really good rock bands stick around for over a decade or 2,sometimes even more. Most of this pop and and junk on the radio today ,dissapear after a year or two.You want good music, try radiohead, the shins, midlake, wilco,my morning jacket, wolf parade.yes, not all rock singers always sound pitch perfect, but they dont need to,they have heart, and their songs are written by them, not some studio producer, trying to make a quick buck.

Cannot believe that Taylor Hicks won Idol.
However, he at least sings in his concerts!
Did you know that the new group of singers such as Ashlee, Hulk Hogans daughter, Lindsay, don't even sing on their records or concerts?
It is all fake now and prerecorded by ghost singers.

Who cares? AND KNOW WHAT? Yeah- this is coming from an old FART - but there was a time when ALL performances were live. Rosemary Clooney, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and thousands of thousands more did this DAY IN and DAY OUT for years on T.V. ... FOR YEARS! So why all the hoopla over a singer singing live today? Word!
