Flavor Flav in comic book form
I've never had an easy time resolving the two sides of Flavor Flav. On the one hand, you've got Flavor Flav - VH1's resident reality buffoon who single-handedly set off a public debate on 21st Century minstrelsy. On the other, you've got one quarter of seminal hip-hop act Public Enemy - the revolutionaries who dropped "Burn, Hollywood, Burn" on listeners. Public Enemy's debut comic book from American Mule Entertainment doesn't make Flav any less complicated, but it does give us the opportunity to see him deliver a flying sidekick into the face of an enemy combatant. After freedom fighters Flav, Professor Griff and DJ Lord take on the terrorists, it's off to pick up Chuck D on the college lecture circuit where he's delivering a monologue that contains an indirect dig at Flav's chosen profession - "Is it your job to oppose what's thrown at you, to reason it out, or to behave like a Pavolovically-trained, programmed robot or dog slurping it up because it makes you feel better with yourself? Why do you think they call TV programming? 'Cause you the robot." I guess that makes me a TV-slurping robot. It's not too late for the rest of you, though. You can fight the power with the Public Enemy comic's second issue due out on Dec. 27.
