And then there's Maude! (on DVD)
Lady Godiva was a freedom rider
She didn't care if the whole world looked
Joan of Arc with the Lord to guide her
She was a sister who really cooked
If you've never seen the groundbreaking 70s sitcom Maude, then you missed the theme song. It was cowritten by Dave Grusin! (It also has the line "Isadora was the first bra burner, ain't you glad she showed up? And when this country was falling apart, Betsy Ross got it all sewed up!" That's excellent.).
Yes, Maude is coming to DVD.
The first season of the classic Bea Arthur/Rue McClanahan comedy (no, the other one) will be released on March 30. The first season is 22 episodes and will be housed on 3 discs. No word on extras yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if we had some commentaries, since most of the stars (Arthur, McClanahan, Bill Macy, Conrad Bain, Adrienne Barbeau) are still with us. Esther Rolle, who played maid Florida Evans (yup, Good Times was a spinoff of Maude) died several years ago.I used to watch this show, and it was controversial for it's time, addressing such issues as abortion, women's rights, homosexuality.
