Growing Pains coming to Nick at Nite

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 9th 2007 3:06PM

growing painsThe popular '80s sitcom Growing Pains will be added to the Nick at Nite lineup this month, kicking off with a marathon on January 21 from 9pm to 1:30am (and then repeating from 1:30am to 6am). Starting on January 22, the show will slide into its normal timeslot Monday through Thursday at 9 and 9:30pm, Friday and Saturday at 10:30pm, and Sunday at 9:30pm.

Growing Pains was one of the shows my family watched while I was growing up, and that's pretty much where it stays: in my memories. I've tried watching reruns in recent years, but it's still very much "of the '80s" to me. That isn't to say it was a bad show, and it followed the precedent set by The Cosby Show of having a family where both the mother and father had high-paying careers. Also, the kids were mischievous but never complete hoodlums. Actually, the more I think about it, it was pretty much a white Cosby Show in many ways.

Full House stinks. Enough of Full House. Why so much of Fresh Prince? Too much over and over and over.

Growing Pains wasn't good when it was fresh. Fresh Prince is getting monotonous, even though I like Will Smith. How much longer do we have to put up with Full House, totally unbelievable.

The date on here isn't right. Growing Pains will kick off on Nick at Nite on February 12. There will be a marathon from 9pm-1amET.

And to Chris, A Different World and Designing Women SUCK! That's why DW isn't on anymore. Nobody was watching it. Face it...Will Smith is a big name and people love his old stuff. It's called business.

I was watching Nick@Nite and Growing Pains was not on at all. I am not sure why they lied to us.
Also, I agree that they show Fresh Prince and Roseann a lot. There is a marathon of Roseann starting monday the 22nd of jan.

It'll be on Nick at Nite for about 3 months then it'll be gone completely by May. I mean Nick at Nite might as well re-name itself "The Fresh Nick @ Nite of Bel-Air." It seems like they show the Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air 10 times a night.

A Different World is on at 5:30am now and Designing Women is gone completely. Growung Pains won't last long and it's only hope is to take Full House's timeslot and be the transition show between Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite.

I think you got it right, Adam, about it being "of the 80's". I remember watching it and really liking the show at the time, but it doesn't stand the test of time like some shows do.
