A&E orders up some new shows
The producers of Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist are developing a new animated series for A&E, Hollywood DMV. This will be the first animated series for the network, and will feature animated versions of stand-up comics as they stand in line at the DMV. The main focus of the animated series, however, will be the employees.
If it were anyone else but the producers of Dr. Katz behind this, I'd probably dismiss the series without even watching it, but Dr. Katz managed to find that balance between recycled stand-up material and multi-dimensional main characters, so I'm optimistic.
I can't say the same about the other pilots A&E has ordered, however. Patti Novak: America's Toughest Matchmaker is a 13-episode series in which Novak critiques singles on their dating skills. I assume at some point during the series will be told why the hell anyone should care what Patti Novak thinks.
There's also Alien Encounters, a new series that claims to investigate paranormal phenomenon "objectively." I'll admit I'm curious about this series and whether it will be any different than the plethora of paranormal shows already on the air. I might suggest they change the generic title, though.
