Buffy comic update: pre-orders and spoilers

Ok, I cannot wait for this. I love/worship/would kill for Joss Whedon. He's so awesome and his characters rock my world. I hated the end of the television series, especially because Buffy's last word was "Spike". Ugh! While my hopes for a Faith spinoff was denied, and Angel was cancelled, I kept telling myself "This is not the end", and alas, it is not the end. I'm going to get this the day it comes out, and I think anyone with something negative to say, should just keep their mouth shutsies.

Wow...."Corny profit-motivated"...I don't even know what to say. But I'll take a shot. The character of Buffy Summers is Joss Whedon's BABY! He has said that it is one of the most important things he's created. The fact that he is penning (and overseeing) the comic book should ensure anyone faithful to Buffy that this is the real deal. And BTW, he didn't write every Buffy TV script, so why should he not trust the comic to his hand-selected writing staff?

The way I see it, it is miraculous that the series should have the freedom to continue on in a less hindered format. (Besides, I didn't think season 7 was so great, so here's a chance for redemption.)

I simply cannot wait.

"Profit motive"? Are you kidding Barbara? Or do you think the series originally appear on PBS?

I've been really looking forward to this since I found out Joss was doing them. If Fray and his work on AXM is any indication, they should be great books. Even the non-Joss penned Angel and Buffy comics have been well worth the money. Much more like the show than the novel tie-ins, in my opinion.

Only the first four or so issues of the planned 30 or so. The rest will indeed be just overseen by him, with other writers taking up the pen.

I was semi-interested in this series until I found out two of those other writers are Jeph Loeb and Brad Meltzer. Blech, no thanks.

Wow, so Xander apparently decided what he really needed was to look like Christian Bale.

I was going to pretty much ignore the comics because I'm generally not a fan of comic art, and it really pulls me out of the story, but (despite Xander's makeover) I like the look and feel of this. So, even though slayer cells don't interest me, I'll give it a go for Xan and G-Man.

Any news on the gang is good news for me. And I've noticed an awful lot of comic books are made into movies these days. Anyone else notice that trend?

Sure, it's profit-motivated. What isn't? But there's story to tell. Seasons Six and Seven on UPN could be argued as a "corny profit-motivated cheap television imitation of the fabulously written epic" (and some people probably do), but that doesn't make it any less a part of the canon.

Do you also dismiss Fray? Which was written during season four, took place far far in the future, yet was also canon? (See, there was this whole "weapon of the Slayer" thing that Fray used that Buffy finally discoverd toward the end of Season Seven...)

Personally, I can't wait for the Buffy Season Eight comics. And I look forward to Joss and Greenwalt sitting down to give us Angel Season Six comics. Bring on the "Mad Max" season!

As a late comer to the magic of BtVS, I beg to differ. I am stoked that Joss W. is continuing to tell the tales, regardless of the medium. Sure it would be nice if there was more television shows, but do you think the actors would be available?

I'll take what I can get. Already pre-ordered the comic and I never buy comics...
