Matthew Fox is one of The Others

by Anna Johns, posted Jan 11th 2007 1:31PM
matthew foxMatthew Fox, who plays Dr. Jack Shephard on Lost, gave a weird interview to the Associated Press where he claims to be a "phenomenally manipulative" person. He describes himself as I would describe The Others. He says he is "unapologetically vicious" and is absolutely an instigator. In other words, he knows how to push people's buttons... just like The Others know how to push the buttons of the Losties.

He says, "I really enjoy social boozing, and what I enjoy about it is when people I know and care about say and do things they normally wouldn't say or do. To make that happen, I'll instigate anything." After reading that, I think I probably wouldn't want to be friends with Matthew Fox.

Oh, and he likes to shock people by strippin' down and going skinny dipping.

I got news for you Dan, and other Fox apologists, the actor is public domain and will be judged as being such. Instead of condoning his offensiveness so much as to promote it as a means to keep life interesting is just as crude as Fox himself. It's actors like him that give actors in general a bad name.

In short, he doesn't deserve a break, paticularly when he speaks so openly about being a complete degenerate with an ignorance of human decency.

Give the guy a break! Let his friends judge whether he crossses the line in his instigations. Life would be boring without provacative people. And what's wrong with skinny dipping?

Maybe "Jack" is going to get killed off and Fox is being an ass to help ease the fans' shock when it happens.

Or...maybe Fox is just an ass.

I don't care much, well, maybe a little, but not too much.

I like Matthew Fox and I think it is okay that he is pompous. He went to an Ivy League university (Columbia), played football there (they had a record losing streak), and is an all around smart guy. I don't think these quotes say anything bad about him. Drunk people are funny, enough said.

If these quotes are correct, it sure knocks him down a few notches on my opinion poll. I'd heard he liked to strip and skinny dip. I thought that was bad enough without all the other trash he mentions in the interview. Why would he be so stupid as to say these things in an interview? I've seen every episode of Lost since it premiered, but am not a total fanatic like some people. I watch it; I enjoy it -- end of story. His remarks sure don't make me fonder of the program, although I'll continue to watch just to find out the answers to some of the questions at some point in time. Grow a brain, Matthew.

I too have seen his interviews, and he comes off very pompous. Interestingly enough, Sawyer was the one who was very soft spoken and generally opposite of the good doctor.

What a juxtaposition. Here you have Josh Holloway playing Sawyer, the manipulative guy who pushes peoples buttons being described in real life as a nice guy and a gentlemen that opens doors for women. Now you have Matthew Fox who plays Jack, who is a nice guy and wants to save the world, being a manipulative guy who pushes peoples buttons.

I've found him smug in interviews and for no good damn reason: he is the worst actor of this show imo.

Overated jerk you say?

Sounds about right to me.
