Are American Idol losers the real winners?

Kellie Pickler and ConstantineHoward Cohen of MiamiHerald.com seems to think so. In today's post he points out that several AI finalists didn't take top prize, but the show still helped catapult them to success. Jennifer Hudson's Golden Globe win last night certainly puts her on the top of the list for "Most Successful Ex-American Idol Losers," well, at least for the time being.

Other "losers" are also making a name for themselves. Kellie Pickler, season five's ditzy blonde (possibly my least favorite contender ever), landed a sitcom deal (Untitled Kellie Pickler Project) and had a No. 1 country album. Chris Daughtry has sold one million copies of his debut CD, clearly outpacing that of Idol-winner Taylor Hicks. Season two's Josh Gracin has also found success on the country charts. Season one's Tamyra Gray has popped up on Boston Public and other TV shows. And season four's Nadia Turner just completed filming a leading role in a romantic comedy called A Taste of Us.

Meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are generally considered to be the only two GENUINELY SUCCESSFUL American Idol winners, by selling tons of CDs, earning Grammy nominations, and racking up other awards (remember the hubbub over Faith Hill's alleged mock-shock when Underwood won the CMA?). Unfortunately, the albums released by their fellow winners Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, and Taylor Hicks have sold poorly. Making some question whether winning the American Idol title is really all it's cracked up to be.

Regarding,Melinda and Lakisha,
it matters not who wins.They
both will get recording contracts and do very well.
If I were Melinda I would
rather be #2,it would be better for her I feel
in the long run
she has secured a record deal,
how ever this turns out.Lakisha, also I am sure.
The rest are questionable.

Nice photo! Having just seen Constantine Maroulis onstage both on his recent New Music Tour and in Jacques Brel, I can only say, thank god he did NOT win AI: his new music is terrific..very eclectic and is his OWN..from writing/co-writing/working with some of the best songwriters in the business- to production. His voice and acting skills shone in his riveting Broadway performances in The Wedding Singer and especially in Brel (the broadway critics were equally impressed!!) and his stage magic and fan-friendly personality is as charismatic as ever.
Curently he is VERY busy--finishing up his debut album which has been two years in the making, planning a summer Tour with his incredibly talented musician/songwriters back up band and all kinds of new music (yes, he's even written a cw- flavored song that my Kenny Chesney fans/friends just LOVE), co-hosting on Fox, NYC as the AI Insider two days a week, traveling the country as the spokesman for Yahoo Buzz, working on the big tv gig in LA- literally hasn't had a break since the night he left AI on Season 4.
And for Constantine, it's only the beginning!

I won't say that the AI contestants would not have had successfull careers without AI, but I will say that without the exposure of AI they would probably not be where they are now in practicing their crafts, talents and gifts. I love Jennifer Hudson and thought she was a great singer when she was on AI, but her singing then was not what it is now. How long would it have taken her to get to where she is now, would we have ever heard of Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, or Carrie Underwood if AI had not put them in front of millions of people. Even the contestants that are on now Melinda, Lakisha, Chris, Sanjaya. Jordin. Some of the constestants that have been on AI did it because someone else had expectations of being the next AI (Ruben Studdard went with a friend) not looking for fame himself but look what happened. Whatever our thoughts are on AI, we cannot deny that some of the contestants would not be in the positions and spotlight if it wasn't for AI.

Make it to the Top 12 on American Idol, and you have just as good a chance of making a career out of your talent than the winner.

Now that they sign non-winners right out of the box, and take the fanfare away from the Top 2, winning is not such a big deal any longer, is it? In fact, not-winning can be a blessing in disguise.

Daughtry was the chosen one from the start. This is very apparent. They don't fool me any longer. IMO, he should still be waiting to release his album, like non-winners of prior years.

I really do what to know where these authors got this information from b/c it's obvious that they DID NOT do their research correctly. Over two million copies is far from selling poorly!!! Hick's CD only came out last week (MY GOODNESS). If you don't like these AI winners, just be honest w/ yourself, and stop making the story up. Ruben & Taylor were not favorite to win either but I'm not going make stories up about them other than I didn't like them. Clay & Chris were my personal favorites for that season.

In another hand, it is so funny about Jennifer Hudson b/c if all of you remember in season 3 the battle of the divas were in the bottom 3 and they were the best out of the bunch. I was extremly disappoint that Jennifer and LaToya couldn't join Fanasia in the final 3. (The voting system still suchs and the should change which contest should be voted out of the competetion and each household should vote once). Anyway, look at Jennifer now, she just won a golden globe award and looking forward to see her win an oscar. She can truly say WHAT AMERICAN IDOL!!!

Winning American Idol is not the end to all for artists. It is an excellent publicity and promotional exposure and excellent International exposure for Any artist not to be taken lightly. This is especially true for the new aspiring artists with great talent but no money or management for a fledgling career aspiration.

There are two wonderful artists that In my professional opinion should have won the competition, but circumstances beyond their control pre-empted their climb upwards on the competition.

Latoya London and Donnie Williams are two of the most talented and promising young artists that appeared on the American Idol program. Both were dismissed from the competition but I predict you will soon hear a whole lot more about both of them and see them on the top of the popularity charts before 2007 is finished, and both could very well have Hit recordings released shortly.

Rumor has it that the two of them have collaborated on a CD of great songs with some very well respected Grammy nominated producers and world class musicians with multiple Gold Records on the wall.

Watch for these two very talented artists to jump out into the public eye very shortly and if they come to your town don't miss seeing them live, they will only get better and better since they come from a good gene pool of musical families. Some major record executive A&R directors have already started comparing Donnie Williams to a young Luther Vandross , and that is certainly not a bad thing. Check Cd Baby shortly for the release of his new Cd I think it's called Just Like Magic, and it has Latoya London on it with him.

Kelly is very talented and could be the "Pat Benatar" for a new generation. I'm afraid her "tween" and "teen" fans will forget her soon and move on to someone else, so I hope Kelly's music continues to "mature" and gains a more mature fan base. Clay will always make music for his fans and not for today's mu-sick critics who give Paris Hilton and Nick Lachey B+ and 3 Stars. Clay will be around for many years BECAUSE he ignores the critics and respects his fanbase. Carrie has the chops to be big in country music for decades. Fantasia is lost in the too-crowded R&B/Hip-Hop field. She needs to worry less about "fitting in" and do more music like "Summertime". She should go the Natlie Cole route, not the Mary J. Blige route. I feel sorry for Ruben. He is a mediocre singer with little personality, but the judges acted like he was a great talent. Why?? Simon is usually spot-on, but he missed that one Big Time. Taylor's personality won him Idol, but he is an average singer and will fade as quickly as Ruben. Maybe his "Soul Patrol" is as devoted as the "Claymates", but I doubt it. The "runners-up" who will be around for years to come? Clay and Jennifer Hudson.

Stop hating

This woman just simply asked a question is it better to win or lose AI? You people get on hear and start post all your little comments about who you like best and who you think should have won. Well the point is you like who you like and other people like who they like. How you can you measure someone else's success anyway if you don't like them you won't keep up with them. Alot of people say they don't like Fantasia well if you don't like her don't support her and continue to support whomever it is you choose to support. Who was her runner up don't hear anybody talking about her. But the origanal thing was is not winning better and that all depends on that persons fan base so people please stop hating because from the looks of it all they all "successful" and all we can do is either support the ones we like or.
