Medium: The Whole Truth

Miguel Sandoval - Medium(S03E08) After a one week delay, we finally get a look at "The Whole Truth" and I have to say, we really could have done without it. Team Medium dropped the ball and delivered an episode that is best described as boring. The episode just never seemed to pick up speed.

It was like the difference between seeing a comedian tell a joke and having your friend tell you the joke after they see it. It's still the same joke, but one way is much better. I think there was a good episode in this idea somewhere, but the way they told us just wasn't it.

That's not to say it was all bad. There were a couple of bright spots. I liked that we got a little more Devalos than usual, and his struggle with being asked to cover up the assemblyman's 'suicide' was interesting, as was his seeming willingness to "let sleeping dogs lie" where Jimmy Nessler was concerned. Joe getting to use his knowledge to pitch in and help solve a case was also good. But for me, that was about it for the episode.

The mystery was barely a mystery. Past the initial dreams that seemed so distant and unrelated, there wasn't anything that was actually surprising. The clues were so obvious that we were leaps and bounds ahead of Allison the whole time. Medium doesn't always need to have an OMG reveal moment, but the story and performances here didn't make up for the lack of a surprise.

I also found it strange that the girls were relegated to just mentions in conversation between Joe and Allison. It probably wouldn't have saved the episode, but some kind of b-story with one of the girls could have elevated the episode to passable. And there was certainly room to edit that in. As it was, I would have rather just watched "Blood Relation" again.

So, that's all I have this week. I guess they can't all be gems. The good news is that this is still Medium, and it's still a good show. I'm confidant that they will bounce back with another good episode sooner rather than later.

I completely agree with you; there was just something off about this episode. It seemed poorly put together and meandered all over the place. Certainly not up the to quality of the season to date.
