What to Watch Tue., Jan. 23

Veronica Mars on the CWVeronica Mars (9PM, The CW)
It's State of the Union night (see below), which is usually a television wasteland. For those of us who don't care to watch an hour of meaningless babble, 'Veronica' comes to the rescue. Last we saw the perky detective, she caught the campus rapist and broke up with boyfriend Logan (why, I still can't figure out). Now, she and Papa Mars are on the case of the dead dean.

NOTEWORTHY

State of the Union (9PM, Various Networks)
I'm not jazzed, but there will be some star power: stem cell research advocate Michael J. Fox will attend.

Gilmore Girls (8PM, The CW)
Luke asks Lorelai for a recommendation letter in his custody suit, and she finally comes to her senses and dumps Christopher (that last part's just wishful thinking).

American Idol (8PM, Fox)
Simon & crew grimace and gripe their way through Memphis.

Academy Award Nominations 2007 (8:30AM, E!)
'Borat' all the way!

Ancient Discoveries (9PM, History)
We promise this look at the Siege of Troy won't have Brad Pitt screaming "Is there no one else? Is there no one else?"

ALSO NEW TONIGHT

Dateline (8PM, NBC)
NCIS (8PM, CBS)
Really Big Things (8PM, Discovery)

Dirty Jobs (9PM, Discovery)

The Bad Girls Club (10PM & 10:30PM, Oxygen)
Fabulous Life Of ... Sizzling Celebrity Sex Lives (10PM, MTV)
Dirt (10PM, FX)
Miami Ink (10PM, TLC)
Most Deadly (10PM, Discovery)
The Real Housewives of Orange County (10PM, Bravo)

The Hungry Detective (10:30PM, Food Network)

uh, TV Squad, first you ditched the old format that worked perfectly and could run circles around this one. then you let the author of this post get away with such a foolish statement. I love VM, but i'll be watching the State of the Union address because it is, in fact a VERY important social event.

TC, try The Futon Critic. It has a "What's New Tonight" feature.

I seriously dislike this format. Does anybody have suggestions on other sites that might offer something better?

Weird that there has not even been a mention of this new format. Does not look like we will get our wish of the older format...

I'll take the honor of starting the Daily Pile On the new format - Please Bring Back The Old Column, or drastically reformat this one - by channel-not time, new/repeat, links within TVSquad rather than AOL

"For those of us who don't care to watch an hour of meaningless babble, 'Veronica' comes to the rescue." Maybe she can help those of you not interested in politics or 'babble' NOT to vote in the next election.

The State of the Union address is vitally important as it lays out the game plan or objectives of our country's next year. Tonight we will see President Bush, our Commander in Chief not run from fear and face up to the growing threat of terrorism surrounding us. If that doesn't appeal to you, you can wager the number of seconds until Pillary gives her trademark scowl and crosses her arms.

God bless America!

I'm hoping VM will get its highest ratings ever tonight. There's a good chance of it! And hopefully those new viewers will get hooked. I don't see how they couldn't. :D
