When 24 blows up your hometown
LA Daily News entertainment editor Robert Loman was ticked off after he finished watching 24 last Monday night.
He wanted to know why the creators of 24 decided to wipe out his hometown of Valencia, CA with a suitcase nuke in hour four of its sixth season.
"In Valencia?" Loman wrote. "Hey, we practically invented soccer moms."
So indignant was he that he called 24 executive producer Howard Gordon to find out why they chose to detonate the nuclear bomb in Valencia and not, say, in Burbank, or a some fictional California community. Gordon told Loman that they "liked the sound of Valencia." Loman then went on to interview a city councilor who mused that this probably wasn't the kind of civic promotion that would please the local chamber of commerce.
