Kelsey Grammer, Patricia Heaton in sitcom talks

patricia heaton; kelsey grammerThe Hollywood Reporter is saying that Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer are in talks to co-star in a sitcom together. The comedy is called Action News, in which Heaton and Grammer would star as a reunited anchor team at a local television station. It's being written and produced by Steven Levitan of Just Shoot Me, Greg the Bunny and Stacked, and Christopher Lloyd of Wings and Out of Practice.

I'm always a fan of a comedy that's based in a newsroom because I think there is a bottomless supply of humor. But, Patricia Heaton drives me nuts. I didn't like her on Raymond-- by the end of that series, she was a whining, yelling shell of a housewife. And those grocery stores ads are infuriating! I'm lukewarm on Kelsey Grammer.

What do you think of the possible pairing?

I think this is a good pairing. I was wondering if Constantine Maroulis is being considered for a part in this show, since he was actively involved with kelsey for his own sitcom that didn't pan out.

Patricia Heaton is hot. Kelsey Grammer is mildly amusing. I'd give it a whirl.

"Kelsey Grammer is a class act all the way. As for Patricia Heaton, she was the hottest mom on television!"
I second that! She kept getting better looking the longer the show went on.

I don't think PH's politics has anything to do with her acting ability or her comedy chops. She did a great job on Raymond and played the character as written. Don't blame the actor of you don't like the character.

Grammar, on the other hand, has a bigger job overcoming the Frasier character in my opinion. If he plays an intellectual goof on this new show then I'll have a problem with it.

But, I like both of them as actors and comedians and would be willing to give this new show a shot.

#7, why would you immediately assume that there is a hidden agenda? As stated elsewhere, I was annoyed with her ELR character as well as her Albertson's supermarket commercials long before I knew anything of her politics.

As far as I am concerned, annoying is annoying.

Frasier was the best-written and executed sit-com since "ILLucy", as predominantly influenced by Kelsey Grammer. Patricia Heaton on "ELRaymond" is an excellent actress (tho' I loathe her politix), best seen in her exchanges with her in-laws and her parents; with Raymond she was basically a BITCH, but that's as he wanted her and she did it WELL. My guess is that Grammer will be pompous, his forte, and Heaton will be his "undoing", which she also does well. There'll be their individual crises, to which the other will be sympathetic -- then the one receiving the sympathy will say/do something annoying, and it will be back to the sarcastic norm. Sounds formulaic, but their individual talent will transcend the "formula" and make for a great show.

I'm amped!

I'm not huge fans of either actors, but this show has potential. I'm not sure you can blame Heaton for the way the character was written. I agree the agree the character became an unlovable shrew about halfway through ELR's run, but how much control did Heaton have in the development of her character? Granted, in real life Heaton can be quite sanctimonious, but that's not unheard of in Hollywood, is it?

Even before I found that she engaged in questionable activities on behalf of right-wing causes (i.e., misstating the metes and bounds of proposed stem cell legislation in an effort to defeat it; I don't mind my entertainers being Republicans), I had to stop watching ELR because of her. I couldn't stand her character.

The thing is, I saw interviews with her, and it felt like the character she played wasn't far off from the one she played on ELR. Obviously, the character on ELR is an "amped" up version, but there was just enough of it in reality that I found her, as a person, incredibly unappealing.

When combined with her political activities, I can't bring myself to watch anything she's involved with ... well, if she's in a Peter Jackson Hobbit, I'll manage to go see it. ;)
