24 producer "obsessive" over ratings

by Meredith O'Brien, posted Jan 25th 2007 3:24PM

Jack and Graham Bauer on 24At 7 o'clock in the morning the day after 24 airs, its executive producer Howard Gordon starts calling people to get the ratings about the previous evening's show. And he does so "obsessively," he told TV Week.

Gordon said that while he was concerned that Heroes -- which airs opposite 24 on Mondays at 9 -- would "take a bite" out of the 24 audience, he was pleased with how his show performed Monday. (Heroes narrowly beat 24.)

Gordon also told the magazine that fans shouldn't be surprised to learn that Jack Bauer has a brother, or for that matter, that the President Palmer II has a sister, because viewers have only known these characters for six days of the characters' lives, adding that he's had plenty of days where he hasn't talked to his own brother.

yea man, we've only known him for 6 days, only 120 waking hours. he also works at mcdonalds part-time, but we wouldnt know that b/c the 120 hours we've seen him are his days off, duhh.
i completely believe he has a brother, heck i even believe he could have a father. same with palmer, heck he might have parents too. the problem is believing the bauer family being so polarized and basically in control of the world. cant wait to see how different daddy is.

quit being so obsessed with ratings and just be obsessed with making the show semi-realistic! ratings will follow

While I agree with him that's it not impossible for Jack to have a brother, i think the producers are stretching our imaginations a little by introducing bluetooth (that's what i call him) as his brother. It did have a lot of shock value though. I did not see that coming at all.
