What to Watch Thu., Jan. 25

by Kelly Woo, posted Jan 25th 2007 11:15AM
Winter X Games on ESPNWinter X Games (9PM, ESPN)
Last year's Winter Olympics opened my eyes to an unfamiliar sport: snowboard cross. How awesome is a superfast downhill race where competitors jostle each other while facing jumps, banks and moguls? And you gotta love the wipeouts. Twenty-year-old snowboarding star Shaun White won't be competing in the cross, but he will take on the the superpipe and slopestyle.

Pros vs. Joes (10PM, Spike) 2nd season premiere
Regular dudes try to beat football great Michael Irvin, big hitter Jose Canseco and ultimate fighter Randy Couture. Then, they go home crying.

U.S. Figure Skating Championships (9PM, ESPN2)
The specter of legend Michelle Kwan looms no longer. Good for young, up-and-coming skaters.
Sad for the rest of us.

Men in Trees (10PM, ABC)
Marin greets her new housemates -- a bat and a bear. There's a reason why city girls live in cities.

Nashville Star (10PM, USA)
While 'Idol' still picks through the crazies, y'all can check out some real singing tonight.

Best Evidence (9PM, Discovery)
In 1986, TWA Flight 800 disintegrated off of Long Island and led to the longest, most extensive and costly investigation in civil aviation history. Experts continue to search for answers.

Smallville (8PM, The CW)

Rob and Amber: Against the Odds (8:30PM, Fox Reality)
The War at Home (8:30PM, Fox)

American Chopper (9PM, TLC)
Grey's Anatomy (9PM, ABC)
The First 48 (9PM, A&E)
The O.C. (9PM, Fox)
Supernatural (9PM, The CW)

Detroit SWAT (10PM, A&E)
In the City (10PM, BBC America)
Real World/Road Rules: The Duel Reunion

Afro Samurai (11PM, Spike)

Sounds like a perfect solution...and thank you for the response from "our TVSquad/AOL overlords"

Yea, we have nothing against you Kelly, it is just that the format of What to Watch is practically worthless compared to the very convenient old format.

Thank you Kelly for bearing the brunt of the comments. I'm sure it wasn't an easy 2 weeks. It wasn't about you or what you wrote, but there were high expectations to live up to with TVS readers. Hey, if this had been done over at Engadget you would have been met with pages of comments "welcoming our new AOL overlords" to the blog.

It is good to know that we have been heard and our regular column by MY favorite TVS writer is coming back. I am still disappointed that the ONLY official announcement about any of this was the little blurb at the bottom of this posting.

Hi Kelly

Thanks for speaking up. Like TomB said, it was never about you. We love TVS and what it gives us, and we're just upset that things changed without any explanation. So thanks for finally filling us in.

Hi Kelly,

It was never about you. You were put into the unenviable position of having to share AOL content with us. Content that I believe most of us don't want here.

AOL's TV coverage has always been an option for us. Regular TVS readers made their choice a long time ago. That's why they're here and not on AOL's site.

hey, we don't hate you, we just missed our convenient 'what's on' posts!

this one is growing on me now, i'll still check it out once Bob's posts are back...

Hey AOL did something right. Now stop sending out those damn free trial disks.

Hello all - your reviled "What to Watch" writer here. Bob's posts will be coming back to you Monday. We're revamping "What to Watch"; it'll post once a week on Mondays with six picks (one for each day) for the week ahead.

Those six picks will still be published on both AOL and TV Squad (the short "noteworthy" ones will only be on AOL). I hope you'll continue to read "What to Watch" and find it useful, but if not, I understand.

AOL TV and TV Squad is now one big happy family, so there will be a lot of sharing back and forth.
