24 time warp
Don't look for any references to current events or even to the year during episodes of 24. You won't find any.
In fact, while 24 is, ironically, a show about literally counting down the minutes of a single day, the show's creators intentionally never mention the year in which Jack Bauer's current bad day is taking place.
In a Scripps Howard News Service piece, Terry Morrow wrote that if you follow 24 from the first hour of the first season, the current season should be occurring in the year 2012 (though the program doesn't strike me as futuristic, unless in the future cell phones are virtually indestructible). Even the CTU computer monitors on set all say it's 2012 in Jack Bauer-land, Morrow reported.
An Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter who got a tour of the CTU set also noted that the phones say that 24's season six occurs on January 23, 2012. Show director Jon Cassar said, "We avoid date and time references as much as possible."
