Bill Murray to help Letterman celebrate 25 years

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 29th 2007 3:01PM

Letterman, MurrayWow, I feel really old.

David Letterman celebrates 25 years in the talk show seat (it's actually more, if you count his short-lived morning show that no one seemed to love but me) on February 1, and Bill Murray will come back to the show to help him celebrate the milestone. Murray was Letterman's first guest on the old NBC show in 1982 and his first guest on the CBS show in 1993.

The other guest on the February 1 show will be LeBron James. I'm not sure how that ties into the special day, but there you go. I'd rather see a regular, like Amy Sedaris, Steve Martin, Charles Grodin, Regis Philbin, or Tom Hanks. Hopefully they'll be some clips.

Bill Murray is brilliant, as always, on talk shows.

Gee, you're OLD.

Um... I loved the morning show, as well. Did you catch it the morning the set caught fire? I really wish that they'd put his NBC show, or at least some if its zaniness, on DVD.

I was a hostage mom that year-a 1 year old and a 4 year old. We watched the show every day. I had seen him on the MTM show--some ghastly backstage storyline--and I thought he was kinda cute. Followed him to his new show and just WOW what fun! Once he realized he wasn't getting renewed he just had a blast! He did whatever he wanted to. Got away with it! Would love to see the old shows again--gosh they were 1 1/2 hour shows every day. Too bad he couldn't stay as creative and funny as he was then.Sorry Dave, you're just a wee bit too bitter for me these days.

Lebron James is appearing on the show because Letterman wants to feel really old. James was born in December 1984 -- more than two years after Late Night With David Letterman debuted on NBC.

And I loved Letterman's morning show too.

"Hopefully they'll be some clips."

Are you actually suggesting that you WANT a clip-show? Seriously, Bob ... do you hate TV?

I'm kidding of course, but still ...

"Hopefully they'll be some clips."

They will be some clips? Who will? Bill Murray will be a clip?

Maybe you mean "Hopefully there'll be some clips."

If the writers of TVSquad are going to call themselves professional journalists, maybe they should proofread their copy. Or maybe AOL should spring for a copyeditor or two.

I see egregious misspellings and grammatical errors in 75% of the posts I read. I don't mean to harp on this, but it really makes the site seem amateurish.

My 2 cents.

To call Charles Grodin a regular is being pretty generous. He's probably been on twice in the last five years.

I *loved* the morning show - through an act of god, our high school was getting redone and I had to go to school in the afternoon during this shows run - it was *awesome* sleeping in, but the morning show made the whole deal even more fantastic.

I would love to see a 'best of the morning show' on DVD.
