Life on Mars returns on February 13th

Sam TylerThe promos for the second, and final series of Life on Mars have started sprouting up across the UK.

I spotted a bus stop ad earlier tonight in the west end of Glasgow, designed in a typically 1970s fashion -- replete with the late 1970s BBC logo -- promising the return of this excellent retro-cop time-travelling show on Tuesday 13 February on BBC ONE in the UK.

John Simm will return as detective inspector Sam Tyler, who finds himself still stuck in 1973, following a car accident (the title of the show comes from the last tune he was listening to on his iPod before his accident -- David Bowie's Life on Mars).

We can also look forward to the return of Philip Glenister in the role of detective chief inspector Gene Hunt, Liz White as WPC Annie Cartwright -- and all of the original cast from series one.

The second series promises to reveal the tuth about Sam's time-travelling mystery, and the show will come to an end when series two concludes.

I am so excited about the show coming back and about the upcoming American version. My only concern is the ending we have been waiting for...Once we find out how/why Sam is living in the 70's in the UK version won't that take away from the charm of the American version if we already have the answer?

ABC has already announced that they are doing a remake of the show and it seems they're just calling it Mars http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=1&id=39825

Can't wait to see it come back. I was disappointed that the story wasn't wrapped up by the end of the first series. Glad to see they'll finish after two though. I don't want to see a "Lost" style thing where they stretch it out (very thin) to 6 or 7 seasons. It would just end up being "another cop show" that just happens to be set in the past, with only a couple of minutes each episode dedicated to the ultimate goal of telling the story.

Hex ran for two series. The first had six episodes and the second had 13 episodes. It was not renewed for a third.
