Past 'Idol' finalists to appear on Dr. Keith Ablow show

Kevin CovaisI guess once you're an American Idol finalist, you're always an American Idol finalist (unless you get an Oscar nomination and decide to bite the hand that fed you). But as long as you stay on good terms with the show's producers, you could probably milk this thing for the next century.

On Friday, February 9, past finalists Kevin Covais, Melissa McGhee, Diana DeGarmo, Ryan Starr, LaToya London, and Frenchie Davis (the disgraced, disqualified finalist) will be guests on The Dr. Keith Ablow Show.

According to a blurb on the official American Idol site, the finalists will "reveal the inside scoop about the hit reality show and share their opinions about Simon Cowell and the great success of fellow Idol Jennifer Hudson."

Why do I imagine Kevin Covais coming out of hiding once a year for the next 80 years to talk about his Idol experiences to anyone who will listen?

In fact, I do care. I'd like to know if any of them are releasing their first albums as major recording artists. Or doing TV or movies. Or if one of them just walked away from the entertainment field and went back to their private life or day job. There are some past American Idol finalists who gave up completely on it. I haven't heard anything from Kevin Covais since last year. The thing is, the TV exposure helps and I'm sure that they got floods of offers from record companies, the Warner Bros, the Columbias, the Island Def Jams, the Universals and so forth after they left that season. American Idol's been a huge hit and people stay loyal to whatever these former finalists, now freestanding recording artists, are doing now. That Daughtry, Taylor Hicks, and Kellie Pickler have albums on the charts now is quite something of the show franchise's impact on the music industry.
