Save the cheerleader but kill her music career

by Elizabeth Chan, posted Feb 5th 2007 6:28PM

Hayden PanettiereWhy isn't it enough to just be a fast-rising television star on a popular series on a major network? Are our young up-and-coming thespians that much of an overachieving set that they can't just take their earnings and buy themselves a new car or hang out at Louis Vuitton? It seems young television starlets everywhere are giving a new meaning to the term "triple threat." The real threat being that we'll be surrounded by examples of their talents being spread too thin and have it simultaneously shoved up our noses in multiple places.

Move aside Hillary Duff. Hayden Panettiere wants some of that hoopla too, and the proof is in her new music video for the straight to DVD Disney's Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.

If we knew that this was how you were going to repay the masses by saving your life on Heroes, then maybe we would have asked our beloved Heroes to do something else.

I guess I shouldn't be so hard on Hayden, after all she didn't get to this road on her own. Someone had to have recognized her blond hair and lack of a good vocal tone as a modern pre-requisite needed to become an American pop star. For that distinction I blame Hollywood Records. The same people who have given Hillary Duff, Raven Simone, Jesse McCartney and (I'm still trying to figure this one out) Regis Philbin.

So Hayden, just do your thing in the cheerleader's outfit, but don't think you're gonna find cheerleaders for your music career.

i have to agree with the majority here she's actually a pretty good singer. she's taking advantage of the music industry like so many other actresses who .... well....failed....*cough ashlee cough* video is on youtube.com if anybody else cares to listen to it =D

I just have a question for all of you, how old are you?
She is a pretty good singer like it or not.
Plus every girl from the age of 8 to the age of 14 likes her. Do you really think it matters what you say about her. That goes for every Disney actor/singer out there.
Oh and Elizabeth Chan you can say all you want about them but dude they are making ten times the money you are by making CD's and movies. So say what you want but nothing you say will change the minds of every girl and boy who like those young stars.
I have to ask do you say those mean things because you can't hit a note for the life of you or just becuase you like to be a pain?

I htink that AOL does lots of reverse advertising
where they pretned to be against things, but are actually advertising for them
either that or they are just really bad at picking shit to make fun of

either way - this doens't sound too bad - but you can tell it's edited as shit

Here is the thing, I can sing (not great mind you but I have had about five years of training so do understand I'm judging her on a few levels) and I think she has a fine voice, maybe untrained, and immature but fine. The thing is because she's been "smoothed and softened" as someone said earlier she sounds like everybody else. I cannot tell the difference between a lot of these singers. It doesn't help that the song is so cutesy...not that I'm knocking Disney (It's my dirty secret I'm a feminist who collects Disney films) But she has very little opportunity to make this song her own. It's a Disney movie, with a strict code of what you do and what you don't do so think about that when you watch the video. But further more about Hayden she's a gifted actress and I would hate for her to focus more on her singing career get flack about it and lose out on great acting chances...I just think there is more to the "Biz" than being everything at once...I mean has Paris Hilton, Hillary Duff, or Lindsay Lohan gotten nominated for a Golden Globe, Oscar or Grammy? I don't actually think so.

I am a voice teacher and I think she has a very good voice. I would like to hear her live and hear the real thing though. The real problem is that the video is cheesy and the song is weak.

I would like to hear her with a song that is well written with some musical depth. She definately has depth as an actress. I think she could carry that over successfully.

I think that elizabeth just feels the ned to dump on Hayden because she knows that her crappy voice cannot even come close to Hayden's. You need to leave this poor girl alone. She is just trying to make her way in this world and she ia a wonderful role model for our youth. And even if you could sing a note, you would probably need twice the mixing to make it sound half as good.
