What to Watch Feb. 5 - 11

by Kelly Woo, posted Feb 5th 2007 8:41AM

Rules of Engagement and LostThe best way to recover from a Super Bowl hangover? February sweeps! This week features plenty of guest stars, premieres and the return of heavyweight 'Lost.' Here are AOL Television's top picks for what to watch this week.

Rules of Engagement (Mon., 9:30PM, CBS) series premiere
Is the sitcom dead? Not if CBS has anything to do with it. Consider this: In the battle between heavyweights '24' and 'Heroes,' the winner was none other than 'Two and a Half Men.' Clearly, the audience still wants to see sitcoms, so CBS takes another shot with 'Rules.' It takes elements of the excellent 'How I Met Your Mother (two couples, one Barney-like single guy) and mashes them up with the premise of Fox's 'Til Death' (one new, one longtime couple) to make comedy comfort food.

Gilmore Girls (Tue., 8PM, The CW)
It's started. Yep, the train to Luke-and-Lorelai-ville has left the station and going full speed ahead. First, she wrote a beautiful, heartfelt letter for his custody trial. Now, Luke's there for her and the entire Gilmore family after Richard's classroom collapse. He even runs errands for Emily! And Logan borrows a helicopter to lend Rory his support. And where's Christopher? Nowhere to be seen. Not even a phone call. Choo-choo, folks, choo-choo.

Lost (Wed., 10PM, ABC) 3rd season winter premiere
So, when we last watched 'Lost,' Jack saw Kate and Sawyer hook up, then decided to be noble and save them by holding Ben hostage on the surgery table. Guess "do no harm" doesn't apply to "The Others." As Jack holds Ben's life in his hands, Juliet flashes back to her medical career. Kate and Sawyer discover a problem with their escape, but receive unexpected aid. And the 'Lost'-'Deadwood' connection continues, with Robin "Calamity Jane" Weigert guest starring.

Survivor: Fiji (Thu., 8PM, CBS) season premiere
'Survivor' just keeps going and going and going ... and the seasons are melding together. Did Aras win 'Guatemala' or 'Panama'? It doesn't help that CBS airs editions back-to-back; they should've held 'Fiji' for the summer. 'Fiji' looks almost as diverse as 'Cook Islands,' and promises new twists. One tribe will be given the materials for a luxurious camp. Sounds a lot like 'The Apprentice: Los Angeles.' What's next? Will the Donald show up at tribal council?

Ghost Whisperer (Fri., 8PM, CBS)
Ah, February sweeps. It's a time of exciting storylines, spectacular stunts and big-name guest stars. And if those guest stars happen to tie to one of the network's other shows, even better. R&B diva Mary J. Blige, who's up for eight Grammys this weekend (see below), makes an appearance as a cheerleading coach. Turns out she and the rest of the squad are being haunted by a dead pom-pommer who blames them for her death. They've got spirit, yes, they do.

The 49th Annual Grammy Awards (Sun., 8PM, CBS)
Mary J. Blige leads all nominees, but can Justin Timberlake, with four nods, bring sexy back? Will Carrie Underwood carry away Best New Artist? And are Grammy voters 'Crazy' for Gnarls Barkley? The Grammys are fun to watch because unlike the Oscars and Emmys, it can feature demonstrations of its craft. It's acceptable for musicians to sing, but not for actors to play scenes. Sunday's Grammys will feature the Police, who reunite after 23 years to perform.

Wildcard - College Basketball: North Carolina at Duke (Wed., 9PM, ESPN)
It's "Rivalry Week" on ESPN, and there's no greater rivalry, perhaps in all of sports, than the one on Tobacco Road. GTHC!
