Sarah Silverman rocks Comedy Central
Broadcasting & Cable reports that the premiere of The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central last Thursday was highest ranking premiere in the last three years, drawing a 1.2 rating among viewers 18-49. Among men between the ages of 18 and 24, the program got a 3.3 rating. I'm shocked. Young men like watching an attractive woman make poo jokes, rag on cops, and get high on cough syrup.
I'll be curious to see whether the ratings hold up this week. The first episode was pretty funny, but the show had pretty two dimensional characters, a pretty weak plot, and I'm not sure if the cast was acting or just performing stand-up routines in front of one another. Then again, I think that was pretty much the point, and I definitely plan to watch again tonight. It's a nice change of pace from the typical sit-com formula wherein you're supposed to actually care about the characters and whether they'll eventually wind up sleeping together. Sometimes all I want is 22 minutes of escapist humor.
