Life on Mars 'Rules of Modern Policing'

by Martin Conaghan, posted Feb 11th 2007 11:15AM
Life on MarsThe second (and final) series of Life on Mars starts on Monday, with John Simm returning as time-travelling detective Sam Tyler, who finds himself stuck in the 1970s, solving crime with modern police methods and trying to find a way back to 2006.

The BBC ONE trailers have been running for the past week, making use of a 1970s-style voice over, blue-hued segments from the forthcoming series, and the 'BBC Colour' logo -- from when BBC shows were differentiated in quality by being either plain old 'BBC' (ie. black and white) or 'BBC Colour' (ie. in glorious eye-popping reds and blues).

The BBC has also issued a promo booklet to all staff entitled 'The Rules of Modern Policing'.

It's a pocket-sized, coffee and blood-stained manual from 1973 on how to be a good policeman, including such gems as: "guilty until proven guilty", "never fit up anyone who doesn't deserve it" and, my personal favourite: "never, ever dismiss a hunch just because the facts don't fit. Keep digging and they soon will."

Don't miss it: BBC ONE (UK only), Tuesday 13 February at 2100GMT. Reviews to follow on TV Squad.

In reply to ACE's question, Series 2 will be 8 episodes long.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2006/03_march/01/mars.shtml They'll be shorter than 60 mins when aired in the US as they cut time out for commercial breaks & censor some of the material, so best download eps to get it all. In Canada at least they're planning on showing it uncut without breaks this time.

As to John Simm's future roles, the rumours are true and you can read all about it in link below :)
It also has news about a planned spin off series set in the 1980's starring Philip Glenister (but not Simm unfortunately)

I'm so glad it's back on air, too short a season but wonderful while it lasts...

i ask a favor, could you not recap the show until later in the week? there are those of us who do watch the show who are located in the UK and it takes time to receive the show, so any extra time allowed for us to view the show with an unbiased eye would be appreciated.

the main thing i enjoy about watching foreign programming is having no idea what i am getting into. i was surprised and relieved this site chose to ignore "Primevil."

In the US&A here, so does anyone know where one could get copy of "Rules of Modern Policing" booklet to download (pdf, torrent etc.)?

That is a quality rumor about Simm! Time will tell.

I have not seen his work but word of mouth has it that Simm is a marvelous actor.....I hope the rumors are true.

I don't know where I read about them, scotty, but I did read about both an American version of LOM and about Mr. Simm's possible new role. I can't speak for the veracity of either rumor, but I hope both are true.
