ABC is planning a Grey's Anatomy spinoff for Kate Walsh

Kate WalshMy, my, my... It looks as if ABC is thinking of spinning off Grey's Anatomy, and they're thinking of using my favorite actor on the show to star in it.

Word from The Wall Street Journal (via Reuters) is that the network is looking to create a Grey's spin-off for Kate Walsh and her character of Dr. Addison Montgomery. The plan is to make a two-hour pilot and air it in May. According to an ABC spokeswoman, Shonda Rhimes is working on the spin-off but doesn't yet have a title.

As an unabashed fan of Ms. Walsh (if you've read my Grey's reviews, you'll see how much I've been enjoying her performance this season), this comes as really welcome news. She has both the comedic and dramatic acting skills to pull off her own show, and it seems like there are a lot of potential to have Addison involved in lots of neonatal surgical cases as well as fun romances with the doctors at whatever hospital they send her to. And Grey's needs a bit of a castectomy, anyway; currently, the ensemble is in the double-digits and getting hard to keep track of, story-wise. What do you folks think of this development? Let me know in the comments.

I LOVE Greys Anatomy...and i Totally loved the Spinoff show! I think it will take off just as Greys has! I cant wait for it! Does anyone know what its going to be called or when it will be on? As for cutting down on the cast? NOOO!!! Look at ER hell they had too many people there I couldnt keep up so I stopped watching it. I think Baily should be the next Chief of Surgery though. :-D

Didn't any of you watch last night's episode? Honestly, I liked all the scenes in LA better than in Seattle. There was so much more than surgery and battling for the chief's position - there was real life! I would definitely watch the spinoff. I hope it goes through. The writing was great and it left me wanting to know more about those people.

Okay, I just looked at the 2-hour Grey and the California characters are hot, hot, hot! I can see Kate Walsh with this other group because everyone has such chemistry on the screen. (Don't get me wrong, she's wonderful at SGH.) I will tune in weekly to watch Taye Diggs and Tim Daly sharing the role of Dr. Feel Good; Merrin Dungey in yet another versatile role; Paul Adelstein in a role so opposite to his recent stint on Prison Break; quirky Amy Brenneman being Amy; and Chris Lowell. At least I hope it's Chris Lowell because he is so fine that I'm not sure why Veronica Mars didn't ditch Logan a few seasons ago for this sumptous morsel.

I just hope they don't call it Private Practice. Now that ABC has whet my appetite for the show, how about getting the rest of the nation involved and have us vote on the name?

i think grey's will suffer greatly without addison.. and i agree, all meredith does is whine and feel sorry for herself.. but i dont' get it.. the stories are getting hard to follow?? by doing a spinoff, they're adding more main characters and their stories to follow.. no one's gonna wanna watch the spinoff, and the show is just gonna kinda suck.. i really hope they don't go through with it.. this might be the worst idea for grey's ever

I love addison's character and I think grey's will suffer if they get rid of her. I would like to see what happens between her and sloan and karev. I don't have a problem keeping up with everything I think it is interesting and entertaining to see all the drama between everyone. A spin off is not going to last they never do!

"Why not? There are several shows that should have had spinoffs, cough West Wing cough, but only shitty shows do. I think this is rather lame. "

Dude, seriously. Cheers to Frasier & Friends to Joey & Dallas to Knot's Landing -- great shows w/ spinoffs, though the spinoffs, especially in the middle example, were inferior to the original.

I personally think this is a "seriously" bad idea.
kate walsh brings so much into the show, especially between the attendings (she is the only female) and there's so much going on with alex and mark...
her leaving GA could lead to really really bad ratings.

although, i have to say she is a great actress and she deserves to have her own show...but i just don't see (as many have already said) how a gynecologist could be that interesting.

i will watch the pilot, but i definately won't give up GA..
