TV's Top 5!: Is it too soon to make jokes about Anna Nicole?

Harry Connick may be the father of Anna Nicole's babyNotwithstanding her upcoming gig as the host of the Academy Awards broadcast, Ellen is on a roll. Wearing her New Orleans roots with pride, it was only fitting that she celebrate in true Mardi Gras style on yesterday's Ellen and who better invite to her show than fellow native Harry Connick, Jr.

What she wasn't ready for was his shocking admission of paternity...

...He too might be the father of Anna Nicole's child.

But this brings us to an interesting dilemma? Is it too soon to joke about Anna Nicole? Or does this mark our healing process (if there is such a point). Must we wait for Britney to go on Saturday Night Live dressed as a bald eagle for us to be able to laugh with her? Possibly so, but I think this is a step in a good direction. Although Ellen looked a bit uncomfortable, Harry's indirect suggestion was let's not harp on every detail that is bestowed upon the media, take a step back and appreciate that at the end of the day we can appreciate our ability to laugh and find humor in the darkest situations. Well said Harry, even if you didn't really say it.

To me jokes about dead people are on par with racial humor. If the joker is coming from a good place, then I'm ok with it but if they're obviously speaking out of hate or disrespect, then it's offensive.

And you can almost always tell where the person is coming from, unless you're a moron and take things at face value.

Jim Carrey was on the Today Show this week, and he also claimed to be the father. He said that when he receives custody of his daughter that he'll name her something more appropriate: Meal Ticket!

If someone is a "celeb" then who cares...I mean every time they do something "wrong" they go to "rehab" and leave the next day...so yes ANS should be laughed at.

Like Britney, Anna chose a life in the spotlight and thus is always a subject of jokes. Don't want to be mocked - move to BFE and stop parading around red carpet events/clubs.

ANS was a joke while she was alive and is continuing to be so postmortem. If I believed in the afterlife, I think her spirit would be "getting off" on all the attention. I hate that vulgar turn of phrase, but in her case I think it is appropriate.
