Grey's spinoff update: Taye Diggs to star with Walsh

Taye DiggsMore details are coming out about the forthcoming Grey's Anatomy spinoff, which will be introduced in a two-hour episode of Grey's this May. Joining Kate Walsh on the show will be none other than Taye Diggs, who last graced our screens on the short-lived ABC serialized show Day Break.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two-hour spinoff episode will have Walsh's character of Dr. Addison Montgomery contemplating leaving Seattle Grace Hospital. If the spinoff gets picked up, the takes the new job. If it doesn't, she'll turn down the job and return to SGH. No word on what role Diggs will play.

Perhaps to make up for the quick demise of Day Break, ABC has extended its development contract with Diggs' production company for another two years.

I thought DAYBREAK was amazing! They say the TV audience doesn't want to work that hard.......I loved it! I hope the spin-off is a winner. I love Kate Walsh, and Taye Diggs should be called "Hotty McHot-Hot". He is a good actor, and he is beautiful! Good luck Kate and Taye!!!

Taye Diggs is a very accomplished actor but has not been able to find a role that showcases that talent. Day Break ( I watched it on-line) was a good show, that started a little slowly. People had tuned out before it was able to gain any traction. Too bad. Being a part of any spinoff (shows that traditionally falter) is not the best way for him to break his losing streak. He and Walsh are too very likeable stars. Depending upon whom they surround the two of them with, they just might beat the odds. i hate to admit, however, that I think that it remains a bit of a stretch.

Yes! I had originally thought that Diggs would make a great addition to Seattle Grace. In truth, I think that he might work best in SG and not its spin-off. He touched my interest in 'How Stella Got Her Groove Back' and proved his acting chops in both 'The Best Man' and 'The Wood'. However, I don't think he, his agent or the networks he worked for knew what to do with him, despite his talent and his looks. He was just eye candy in 'Ally McBeal' and unfortunately, UPN's audience didn't take to 'Kevin Hill',

I'm glad ABC gave him DayBreak, but despite my TD-love, I thought it was a rip-off of GroundHog Day and 24. I think if it incorporated a bit of self-aware humour it might've worked. Right now, I wish people would stop putting TD on new shows or on shows that are dying, and place him on established ones that are still alive. Not only for his career, but so that I can enjoy watching him for an uninterrupted period.

I would rather see Taye Diggs as a regular character on the hit show 24 - it would be amazing for his career...

I thought the spinoff could have had a chance, but not with Diggs. Taye Diggs is the kiss of death for any show. I don't know if it's just his bad luck or bad acting.

For CaliberSRT4, Taye Diggs is the hottie that Angela Bassett fell for in How Stella Got Her Groove Back. He was an original castmember in the stage version of RENT. He also was on Will & Grace for several episodes of Will & Grace as a BF of Will. I'm interested to see a spin off of Grey's & Addison makes the most sense to go off on her own.

I don't like the idea of this spinoff at all. Love the character of Addison, and I'd like to see her continue. Unfortunately, Diggs has become the kiss of death to a production. Not his fault, it's just the way it is. If he joins Kate Walsh, her show will go down in flames.

He's no leading man unfortunately. That much is obvious. But he'll thrive in a supporting role with a diverse, funny ensemble which the spinoff should rightfully have. Truthfully, I think he would have been a better Dr Burke, probably more tolerant with his theatrical background too. :)
