Wait a second: Grey's Anatomy is named for a character?!

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 23rd 2007 1:37PM

Grey's AnatomyI don't watch Grey's Anatomy. I refuse to a.) get involved in a yet another continuing medical drama, and b.) I refuse to watch a show where there are characters named McDreamy and McSteamy. So I had no idea that the title of the show, while having a double meaning (including the medical/anatomy one, with a different spelling) was also referring to the lead character from the show, played by Ellen Pompeo, named Meredith Grey.

I learned this from reading Verne Gay's column about the show here in Newsday. How did I not know this earlier?

What about other shows I don't watch? Is "Miami" the name of David Caruso's character on CSI: Miami? Is Judge Judy's real first name "Judge?" Is "Philadelphia" the name of one of the characters on It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia? Or is it "Sunny?"

I'm still trying to figure out why they call it "Gilligan's Island."

There. That should raise the collective IQ of this post.

Yes, tcc3,

But you didn't then go and write an article about it to a TV literate community on a blog about television where you're supposed to be more versed about television than the average television viewer.

It's like a television reporter suddenly realizing that Obama is not the guy's first name. I think it's a fireable offense. And that's coming from a guy who writes in the television industry and about television... and doesn't paste his bloglink into comments.

Goddamn. I thought the community over at Joystiq was snippy and rude.

Does it make you feel better about yourself to put down Bob Sassone? If you weren't intereseted in his blog post why would you bother to read after the jump much less post an asinine comment?

And Bob? youre not the only one - I came to the same realization the other day duribng a promo when they show Grey's heart monitor.

Dont let the bastards get you down.

Just because America loves a show, doesn't mean it's good... Just look at the reality tv.

But Bob, really. What WERE you smoking today? If you just come clean about that, I can forgive this post. lol. oh, that, and if you pass it this way.

And Studio 60 was a great show.

I don't want to have Ron agree with me because I got a headache reading it.

And I want to clarify. As much as I pick on Bob I understand his posts, even if they are shit. Plus I think Bob does a great thing posting news and ratings for shows, but the fact he doesn't understand the shows he's writing info about bothers me. Plus his opinions pieces just are jokes, like this one.

Now is Bob getting paid? If he is I'm looknig for a part time job and I will gladly take over.

i agree with dave above. the thing i abhor about this reviewer, is peddling his crap. studio 60 is a far cry from great. they practually sell their mother 's souls to get viewers to watch the crap they like. noone buying it. GREY ANATOMY IS NO. 1 FOR A REASON. ....AMERICA LOVES IT

"And it's impossible for a person who writes about TV - ANY person who writes about TV - to watch every single show on every network. Sorry, that's not how it works."

Well while that is true Bob if you work in TV land you should know what one of the most popular shows on TV is! It's not like GA is some show on MTV45 or some odd cable channel! This is always within the top 20 shows on TV, it's on a network station! It would be like saying that you didn't know what American Idol is, or that CSI stands for someones name! Don't tell us how it works Bob just because you are finally showing your and ignorant fool to everyone who didn't already know that by reading the Studio 60 "reviews"
