The Daily Show: February 28, 2007

Jon Stewart"Soulless Plane": The Spirit of Strom Thurmond. Black hangar. There it is. Joke complete. Senior Cheney Chaser John Oliver, wearing what looked like Rob Riggle's massive trenchcoat, stopped by to report on the non-human qualities of Cheney. Thing is... the Cheney we've come to know and love is actually a team of extremely intelligent cyborgs. Of course, John Oliver was hysterical.

"Back in Black": Ah, always good to see Lewis Black, especially when there's Harry Potter involved. Topics of discussion include Daniel Radcliffe's current stage performance in "Equus" (Hairy Potter!), the KKK (Mexican is the new black!), and sororities (ugly chicks!).

The night's guest was Jake Gyllenhaal, star of the upcoming film Zodiac. Gyllenhaal's always a lovely guest on talk shows, so I was happy to just sit back and enjoy this interview. I also appreciated the continuation of the basketball joke from Maggie Gyllenhaal's interview.

Jon/Stephen: Stephen Colbert worried that he's losing his touch at fear-mongering. I was expecting some long-winded rant about Brokeback Mountain, actually. Moment of Zen: Cheney's twin! Double the fun.

I like John Oliver too, but he's on way too much. I can totally understand why someone would get sick of him.

Am I the only one who can't stand John Oliver? It seems like he is trying to hard and is becoming insufferable.

Speaking of Brokeback Mountain...I have a feeling that Jon had been saving that joke ("You were the kid in City Slickers, so really, Brokeback Mountain was not your first gay cowboy movie") since Gyllenhaal was supposed to be on last time. Just with how pleased he was to get it out there. By the way, did anyone get a George Clooney vibe from him? That same kind of confidence, I don't know. And one of the few younger guests to wear a suit, which was very nice of him.
