A pilot for Paul Reubens

by Anna Johns, posted Mar 3rd 2007 12:20PM
paul reubensIt seems that pesky little problem has finally left Paul Reubens behind. He has been cast as the lead in a pilot for NBC called Area 52. He'll play the role of an alien who is being housed in a government facility. I wish I could tell you more about this pilot, but that's all NBC is releasing. But, I don't find it hard to believe the Reubens just might be an alien.

Paul Reubens has done all sorts of guest starring roles on television, most recently on Dirt and 30 Rock, since his arrest for public masturbation during a police sting in 1991. He is also currently filming Pee-Wee's Playhouse: The Movie-- further proof that his past is now behind him.

I thought Big Top Pee Wee was way funnier than Big Adventure and I watched Playhouse religously, I had like the whole house set up toy set and like every character. It's pretty crazy, but yeah I remember CBS had TMNT, Garfield, and Pee Wee's Playhouse, all 3 will be ressurected on the big screen.

Man I am loving Paul Reubens in the non-pee wee roles though, he has that weird crazy personality that works great for these off-beat characters. I really hope this sitcom works out for him because regardless of what happened he's still a great actor!

TomB,

Yes, I remember the mail lady, but I don't watch L&O so I haven't seen her since Playhouse.

"His Pee Wee movies were OK"

Sir, that's blasphemy - 'Big Adventure' was a masterpiece!

Is it me or does Paul look a WEE bit like Victor Garber (Jack Bristow in Alias)?

Totally agree with you TomB. PeeWee's Playhouse was seriously funny. Remember Lawrence Fishburne as Cowboy Curtis?

I think Reubens is great!! His Pee Wee movies were OK, but he was a genius on Pee Wee's Playhouse on CBS. If you've never seen it as an adult I highly recommend it. As a kids show it was good, but there was a lot of adult content that goes right over kids heads that was hilarious. You can catch it occasionally on Adult Swim, but it hasn't been on there in awhile.

I also thought he was good on Dirt, but he was especially funny on 30 Rock. Sorry I missed him on Reno 911.

Too bad that his jerking off in a movie theater kind of ruined his career for awhile. If he hadn't been doing a kids show at the time it might not have been such a big deal.

Glad to hear he's got a shot at a network show.
