Civil rights activist plans anti-Idol rally

Frenchie DavisDo racy internet photos of Antonella Barba (some real, some fake) tarnish the squeaky-clean family-friendly image of both the Idol contestant and the Idol franchise? Idol's producers obviously don't think so. They've decided to stand by Antonella. But four years ago, they weren't so supportive. They dismissed finalist Frenchie Davis when she told them about racy internet photos she had taken.

To many, the dismissal of Frenchie, but not Antonella, represents a double standard. And this Tuesday, March 6, civil rights activist Najee Ali is holding an anti-Idol rally to bring attention to this "racial bias" as he calls it. Ali said, "they can't have a rule for white contestants and have a different rule for black contestants."

In this exclusive interview, Frenchie talked about her Idol experience, saying, "They had decided that because American Idol was a family show, that they could not have me on the show because of the pictures I had taken – though they had never seen the pictures." According to Frenchie, no one else saw the photos either, because the website no longer existed when she made it as a finalist on Idol.

Frenchie went on to say, "This is my career and this is what I want to do long term. I'm certainly not interested in pissing people off, but this is an unfairness that can't' be ignored." Frenchie is currently starring in Rent on Broadway,

Tuesday's anti-Idol rally/press conference is scheduled for 11 AM in front of the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Frenchie's supporters and friends have also set up a "Vote for Frenchie back on Idol now" email address at SupportFrenchie@aol.com.

They need to PROVE it's Antonella before they make any assumptions, but she sucks anyways. And for the Frenchie chick, she obviously sucked on Idol because she didn't make it. But I think it's the hair, I always think chicks with short pee yellow hair are scary. But KUDOS to Frenchie for making it to Broadway. So really she or anyone from past Idol that has made it big has no excuse to complain. I mean look at that Asian dude...he couldn't sing but someone out there made a CD with him and he has been in a few commercials. If it is a race thing then more people that aren't white should actually vote!

I don't think that it is purely a race thing. I think that there are three factors that got Frenchie kicked off: Her voice was outstanding and she could've possibly won, she is plus-sized, and she is black. It's not one of those things but the combination of the three.

Everyone is talking about Antonella Barba and how the racy pics of her were leaked and she wasn't paid to take them versus how Frenchie got paid for her photos. Let's not forget that American Idol let a STRIPPER compete! Nikki McKibbin was a former STRIPPER! I think that on the totem pole a stripper is far beneath someone who is paid to take a few nude photos to pay for college. She was, however, allowed to compete.

Now you have two thin white girls, one of whom definitely had a questionable past as a stripper -- both are allowed to compete. You put those two up against Frenchie, and yes race does become a more significant question but I still believe that it was her talent that scared the Idol producers more than her size or color.

I think the term "race card" is being overused. Whether or not the details of the two incidents are identical, the premise is the same, keeping American Idol's family show reputation in tact.

When anyone notices any sort of difference in a way a situation was handled it's common to ask, could it be because I'm a woman, a minority, gay...?

No one is "playing cards" and it's nothing wrong or absurd about believing you were racially discriminated against. It just asks a question that I believe American Idol should respond to. It doesn't matter how many differences people can think of between the two situations. Some people feel that it was unfair. That in itself should be enough for American Idol to send out a statement regarding the matter.

I DON'T FEEL IT'S RACIALLY MOTIVATED BUT I FEEL IF IDOL IS A FAMILY VIEWING SHOW, THEN ANYONE THAT HAS ANY QUESTIONABLE ACTIONS BE IT NEKKED PICS, JAIL TIME WHAT HAVE YOU SHOULD BE ESCORTED FROM THE SHOW, AND YES THAT MEANS ANTONELLA(NOT TO MENTION THE CHICK HAS NO TALENT)AND I'M SORRY BUT SOME OF HER PICS WERE PROVOCATIVE MAYBE NOT TOTALLY NUDE BUT FOR A FAMILY VIEWING SHOW, THEY WERE RACY, AND SHE SHOULD IN ALL FAIRNESS BE SENT ON HER WAY WITH HER TAIL BETWEEN HER LEGGS!

First of all I really donot think it is a racist thing. I think its more of a unfairness. The photos of Frenchie was never seen she went and told American Idol herself about the photos ,she was being honest and they still kick her off because it is a family show. Regardless if some of the pics of Barba is fake she to should have been kick off due to her pictures you cannot not make rules for one person and then when something like that happens again you sweep it under the rug. That is just unfair.

Nobody knows where the pictures came from... You can't assume.. Maybe Annotella put them there herself...Hell.. maybe Simon Cowell Posted them... who cares where they came from? The point is that they EXIST.....All it took for Frenchie to get booted is that she had 'racy' pics at one time in the past!! Annotella should have been kicked off too. And she looks topless to me in some of those pics! Beside all that obvious crap... This whole thing is probably not hurting her chances, it may even be helping them. (Think vote for the worst.com) And Annotella is only mediocre at best anyway.

It's very sad that unfair things which every race goes through in everyday life are characterized as racist bye the black community. I'm a 28 year old white male from Baltimore, Maryland who's probably been through as much racism as any black male could experience. I can't tell you how many times a black male has called me a "white piece of ****" because he didn't get a hookup or something for free or he didn't like my store's policy. I deal with this every day but I discard it as being sad, scared people with no kind of morales or class. I'm not running to the aryan brotherhood screaming racism. Get over it, pick yourself up and move on. It's getting very old.
