Young Indiana Jones Chronicles coming to DVD

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 6th 2007 6:10PM

Young Indiana JonesThis rumor has been around for months and months, that the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles series would be released on DVD at the same time that the fourth Indiana Jones movie would be in theaters. Now it looks like the show will indeed be released on DVD, and that news comes from George Lucas.

IGN spoke to Lucas at the Museum of Television and Radio, during the Paley Television Festival. Lucas says the episodes will be remastered and re-edited from their videotape versions, and also said that one of the reasons why the DVDs were delayed (besides his legendary obsession with perfection) is the fact that Paramount never really thought the show would be a big seller on DVD. The series starred Sean Patrick Flanery and ran on ABC for 44 episodes in the early 90s.

The new Indiana Jones movie will be released on May 22, 2008, almost 20 years after the last one. Harrison Ford will be 87 years old.

In theory it was supposed to alternate between stories of a teen aged Indy and a younger version. In practice most of the episodes that I recall were the teenaged Indy during World War I (as a Belgian soldier!) and immediately afterwards.

If you could've seen him type it, you'd totally know he was being sarcastic.

I remember that the show alternated stories between a teenage Indie, and much younger one every other week, I think. Maybe that's part of the reason it didn't catch one. I remember liking it a lot at the time.

Sarcasm?

Doesn't really translate well, it looked like a really dumb mistake.

Awesome series! Can't wait for the DVD set. I believe Lucas has spent a lot of time and money assembling extras and info on the historical figures featured in the episodes. He'd always envisioned the series as something that teachers could use to get kids interested in history.

Way to understand sarcasm there, Misty.

"Harrison Ford will be 87 years old."

Uh, not quite. He was born in 1942, which makes him 66 when the movie comes out in 2008.
