Halfway Home - an early look
Following Reno 911! and the canceled Dog Bites Man comes yet another improvised comedy series for Comedy Central: Halfway Home. The new series stars Oscar Nunez, Jordan Black, Kevin Ruf, Regan Burns, Jessica Makinson and Octavia Spencer as residents of a halfway house who are trying to straighten themselves out, and not doing a very good job of it. Nunez and Ruf also serve as executive producers.
Ruf plays Kenny, the house supervisor who claims to be the moral center but is just as crooked as the rest of his roommates. Nunez plays Eulogio, a male prostitute; Black plays Sebastian, a guy who acts like a gangsta but is really a privileged rich kid; Burns plays Alan, an arsonist; Spencer plays Serenity, convicted of armed robbery; and Makinson plays Carly, a drug trafficker who still really, really likes drugs.
The series, in a word, is hysterical. The episode in which all the men in the house lose their ability to get an erection and begin to suspect a sinister plot on the part of the Bureau of Prisons to keep them from getting boners is some of the funniest TV I've seen in a long time. Much like Reno 911!, each character has their own special personality, which makes the jokes hit even harder. If you loved Reno and Dog Bites Man, you'll also love this show. Adam likes, and Adam recommends.
Halfway Home premieres this Wednesday, March 14 at 10:30 p.m.
