The Tudors online preview

by Julia Ward, posted Mar 14th 2007 10:09AM
Tudors Rhys MeyersHoly history porn. If you dig Rome, and Deadwood does it for your fictive nonfiction-loving self, then Showtime's The Tudors may be right up your alley. It's a journey through Henry VIII's kingship and many, many marriages with more tits, ass, intrigue and bloody violence than you can shake a royal stick at.

Showtime is offering a VIP preview of The Tudors' first two episodes online. (The password is "king.") The series, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, premieres on Sunday, April 1st at 10PM. The series focuses primarily on the king's affair with Anne Boleyn, his obsession with producing a male heir and the political intrigue of the court. And, did I mention that it's essentially softcore for the Anglophile set?

So I am an idiot for finding your immature sexist "joke" in bad taste?

Man, what a sad sack you are. Come back when you have grown up a bit and can actually speak like an adult.

Sorry Akbar, wasn't a personal dig at anyone. He was a big man, just pointing out he wasn't always the big fat man we normally see in what is apparently the only painting approved for public viewing. Ok, that's just my opinion :)

And on Rome Ceasar had a dark black beard, not a lighter black / grey beard. *rolleyes*

It's a TV show not a special on the history of his youth.

And only you would take a bad joke and call it sexist, but that's just because you're an idiot.

Angela, I know he wasn't always the "old porker" most people know, but he was a HUGE man. Based on measurements for armor that still exist today he was around 6'3" with a 42" chest and 35" waist. JRM hardly fits that stature.

I think everyone forgets that Henry wasn't always the old Porker we see in the portraits, in fact he was, a very athletic youth and considered very handsome.

Here (for anyone interested) are links to the earliest portraits.

The last one was him when he was married to Anne Boleyn.

They first two are by unknown artists so may not be the best impressions.

So, he's no JRM perhaps but he was, for his day, quite studly.

Oh man... wish I had Showtime!! I love Henry VIII and that period in history, and love JRM as well. Hott. Maybe it's time to invest in premium cable.

Well David, Henry VII is such a well known historical figure with such unique physical attributes I am a little put off by not getting someone to fill that part of the role. But as I said, JRM is a good actor so I am willing to give it a try.

And that comment about breasts? That quite possibly is one of the most sexist ignorant things I have ever read here at TVSquad.

Who cares if he looks like the king, he's hot, move on.

And I'm hardly into the first episode and the king is having sex with a "woman". I but it in quotes because in order for this to be pornish, even softcore, she needs bigger boobs.

With Rome almost done I do need something to fill that gap and as a huge fan of historical pieces, I concur this looks excellent. Still not 100% sure about JRM cast as Henry VIII (just doesn't meet the physical stature) but I am willing to give him a try since he is a decent actor.

Plus it's got Sam Neill who can do no wrong.

I love a good historical series as much as the next person, and I adore Jonathan Rhys Meyers! This was created just for me!
