What to Watch March 26 - April 1

by Kelly Woo, posted Mar 26th 2007 8:19AM

What About Brian on ABC and The Tudors on ShowtimeWhat About Brian (Mon., 10PM ET, ABC) 2nd season finale
Or should I say, series finale? The future's not looking bright for this much-improved but little-watched show. It came as a surprise last year when ABC renewed it despite lackluster ratings and dull storylines. This season, it made good creative adjustments, like getting rid of the tiresome triangle and firming up the friendships. Unfortunately, the second chance hasn't won over more viewers, so it's likely buh-bye Brian. In the finale, Dave and Deena plan to renew their vows, Brian and Adam run into babysitting troubles and Nic has her hands full at the cupcake store.

Dirt (Tue., 10PM ET, FX) 1st season finale
Dude, Monica and Rachel make out! Well, that seems to be how FX is selling the season finale of new drama. Jennifer Aniston guest stars as a rival editor who's gunning for Lucy's job. She's not the only one: little Willa craves top-dog status, too. And Lucy's in for a big surprise when she finally learns her stalker's identity. If Dirt returns for a second season, the show needs some serious retooling. Courteney Cox should get a better love interest and the magazine needs a real rival. The battle to scoop the competition is boring when Dirt wins every week.

Lost (Wed., 10PM ET, ABC)
Who the hell are Nikki and Paulo? Apparently, they've been with the survivors the whole time, just in the background. Now, they move to the forefront with their very own episode, which flashes back to their experiences on the island since Flight 815 went down. This means we get to see Boone, Shannon, Artz (the guy who got blown up) and evil Ethan. And the show continues its streak of answering questions when Sun learns who was really behind the attack against her last season.

October Road (Thu., 10PM ET, ABC)
ABC has enjoyed huge success with dramas targeted toward women (see Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives) and this season, introduced Ugly Betty, Men in Trees and now October Road. The latter actually reminds me of the first season of What About Brian, with uneven storytelling but an extremely likable cast. Tonight's episode is a turn in the right direction, as Nick mentors Sam in the ways of love and Eddie and Janet start to secretly date.

Ghost Whisperer (Fri., 8PM ET, CBS)
Whisperers unite! Tonight, Ghost Whisperer welcomes Cesar Millan, AKA National Geographic Channel's The Dog Whisperer. Casting genius, I tell you. Homer the Dog has trouble crossing over and returns to spook Delia's golden retriever. Melinda decides to ask Cesar, who's in town for a book signing, for help in getting Homer to move to the light. Meanwhile, Melinda takes in a trouble teen haunted by a dangerous spirit.

The Tudors (Sun., 10PM ET, Showtime) series premiere
Is Showtime the new HBO? With shows like Dexter, Weeds and now The Tudors, the cable network just might be catching up with its more critically-acclaimed rival. The life of King Henry VIII certainly makes for good drama, one that's full of raunchy sex, cutthroat politics and "off-with-his-head" violence (parents, beware). The cast is very fine, particularly Jeremy Northam as Thomas More and Sam Neill as Cardinal Wolsey. But it feels more like a miniseries, and as with any historically-accurate tale, you already know the ending.
