Starbuck = Princess Leia on Redbull. I did not like the character assassination this season but still love Starbuck.

While I acquiesce that some of the votes came from new fans I think the majority of those votes came from longstanding Starbuck fans and/or fans of Battlestar in general who want to see the show get recognition regardless of character preference... People who like Starbuck aren't just new fans, and she is the sum of her parts not just a weak storyline in s3.

If Starbuck isn't 3D then no character on BSG is.

Hm, my guess is that the Starbuck love must have come from peeps catching up on BSG via DVD. The character was basically thrown away for most of season three, probably the worst handling of a really excellent television character since -- well at least since John Locke on Lost season two.

I've gotta agree with C C about Starbuck. To be honest, I really liked her character when the series started, but while other characters seem more fleshed out and 3-dimensional, the Kara Thrace character only seems to have certain traits amplified until she's almost a caricature in comparison to the others. I am, however, glad to see some love and recognition for scifi in the voting.

Starbuck is hands down my favorite character of all time. She's a perfect symbiosis of male and female characteristics. She is the best pilot in the fleet, a title which is historically a male reserve. This extends to Roslin who also benefits from the gender equality in BSG. It's not always perfect but the effort is very commendable.

In addition to having the best male and female traits Starbuck has a true affinity and dynamic with every other character she interacts with. That is very rare indeed and is especially standout when she lives in a world where two powerhouses in Adama and Roslin thrive.

I get that people didn't like the soapish quadrangle I'm no fan of it either but it's shortsighted to project a weak story line onto the final analysis of any character. By the same token Anders, Dee and Lee were all made to look like characters lifted right out of a soap but one story arc does not a character make.

Had this been a competition of who's the more kick ass character it might have been a more close run thing but as far as overall character goes Starbuck was the fitting winner.

CC, I think a lot of people, including me, voted for Starbuck because they loved the show, maybe not the character herself. The MSM is incredibly biased against the show because its "scifi", so it deserves any publicity it can get as a serious drama with engaging characters. Jack Bauer is featured in E! News all the time, Kara Thrace isn't.

Sure, Jack Bauer has escaoed from prison, but has he survived the mass genocide of his entire race, been the best pilot in the remaining ragtag fleet, crashed hes Viper on a planet and proceded to reverse engineer the dying Cylon Raider that also crashed in order to return to space, found the one thing that would bring the fractured fleet together, died an explosive death, and then come back claiming to have been to earth and that he can show the way there?

The voting was rigged. Jenna Fischer posted on her myspace blog about voting for Dwight, which a lot of people did, but then they cleared the voting tally so Dwight was losing.

I have an objection. I'm a fan of both 24 and Battlestar Galactica, so I shouldn't have a problem with Starbuck beating Jack Bauer. But I do. Starbuck is probably my LEAST favorite character on BSG. I don't find her nearly as compelling as Adama or Roslin. They're the real heroes of the series, and they have SOUL, like Jack Bauer. Yes, Starbuck is an ass-kicker, but personality-wise she lacks a lot. She's too soap-operaish to be taken seriously.
