Animation news: Maakies, Molemen and Dirk the Daring
Greetings, people reading this right now. Here's another collection of news and notes from the world of animation:
First of all, I'm still trying to figure out if the Aqua Teen movie is really going to debut on Adult Swim April 1, close to two weeks before its theatrical debut on April 13. I first noticed it on the schedule, and then started seeing it promoted during the Adult Swim block. If this is indeed a gag of some sort, they're playing it perfectly straight. I guess we shall all know soon enough. It's not as if creators Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis haven't messed with their viewer's heads before: they were hyping an Aqua Teen movie before they even knew if it was going to be made.
In other Adult Swim news, Maakies creator Tony Millionaire left a comment on a previous post to say that the new Drinky Crow Show is going to be excellent, and very much like the strip. Look for it May 13 at 11:45 p.m.
Two more Adult Swim bits: I gotta give another shout out to a great Saul of the Molemen episode, "What's Happening Down There?" Saul and a molechild chasing magical testicles in an enchanted meadow, what's not to like?
Also, I've been spending a lot of time playing Five Minutes to Kill (Yourself). Never has suicide in the office been more entertaining.
Speaking of games, do y'all remember Dragon's Lair, that animated video game that was really annoying and frustrating? At least, it was when I was I was six years old and could never make it past the first screen. Anyway, the game is coming out on Blu-Ray April 9 [via G4]. An animated series for ABC followed the video game in the '80s.
