Movie about Florida recount to hit HBO in 2008

by Adam Finley, posted Apr 2nd 2007 4:23PM

sydney pollackIf you don't remember the presidential election debacle in Florida in 2000, here's a brief summary of what happened:

First, networks declared Gore the winner, then they declared Bush the winner, then they decided it was too close to call, then they decided no one was the winner, then they decided Bush and Gore were figments of our imagination, then James K. Polk was posthumously re-elected and immediately impeached within a six-minute time frame, and then after that it just got really confusing.

I may have exaggerated a bit there, but the point is, the whole thing was what the Bible refers to as "a major cluster f**k."

Now, HBO and director Sydney Pollack have teamed up for a made-for-TV dramatic re-imagining of the events that took place in Florida. HBO Films president Colin Callender says the movie will not take sides, but will instead delve into the election process itself. Danny Strong, who has appeared on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gilmore Girls, wrote the script. The movie, titled Recount, will debut sometime in spring 2008.

Are they going to get the guy that was always staring bug-eyed at dimpled chads to play himself?

Any group that wants to document the First Scandal of the Bush administration in film-form is fine with me. Of course, then they should be prepared to finish the 40-part series.

Now this is a story all about how
our lives got flipped upside down
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
I'll tell you how Bush become the President of a country called America.

These movies suck, no one wants to relive this trash again.

This post reads like a late April Fools joke. Of course watching the election results come in that night felt the same way.

I guess we have a year for HBO to realize this sounds like a terrible idea and can it.
