A shocker for the 'Idol' rocker

Jon Peter LewisI didn't see this one coming. I liked Gina and thought Haley was the more forgettable of the two, but I guess looking ominous and singing "Smile" is a bad combo -- and for Haley, being Idol's resident hot chick has more weight than I thought.

This is a strange year. Well, maybe not so strange now that I think about it. TV watchers are no less fickle than the Roman mob. They'll give you the thumbs down just as quickly as they fell in love with you. Voters this year seem to be less devoted to any one person and more prone to dial for their favorite that night.

All the voters except for what's-his-name's -- those guys are freakin' mobilized. I heard them campaigning to keep him going on the radio this morning. Overall they're the minority of voters, I think, but together they're enough to keep him in for a few more weeks. That's pretty funny. Poor Gina, though -- she's probably pissed.

It's something I think Ken and Nigel might actually become worried about. Not for ratings or whatever, but for the respectability of their company. Also, for the fact it's completely beyond their control. Furthermore, when TV shows get worried, they start making dumb choices and people subsequently get tired of them and lose intrest. I can only imagine what happens when ratings start to dip -- if they haven't already.

The Idols are happily oblivious to all this for the most part, though. Living in the AI bubble has its advantages sometimes. You don't hear too much of what's going on around you and don't realize what effect the show has on pop culture. And more importantly, what people think about you. It's a bit like living in Orwell's 1984.

That's scary to think about. What's more scary is that we all volunteered for it. The things people do for fame and fortune ...

Jon Peter Lewis was a finalist on the third season of "American Idol." His newly released debut album, "Stories From Hollywood," is available everywhere online and can also be downloaded at americanidol.com. Visit Jon's Web site for more.

First of all there should not be a change on the voting system. We the people should be the ones to vote. American Idol represents the entire USA. Who ever wins deserves it, because they got the most votes. I do not hate anyone especially those I have never met. I do not listen to anyone telling me who to vote for after all I am a grown up (adult) that makes my own decisions. I vote for who I want to -- the best for that night. I do change my votes from time to time depending on the performance. I have or my boyfriend have voted for Haley, Melinda, Jordin, and LaKisha several different times. Haley gotten worst since she first impressed me. I did not care to much for Gina later in the show, but thought she was better than Haley.
Sanjaya being only 17 is doing pretty good. For those of you that think he will be hurt if he doesn't win, what do you think of the ones that did not make it at all. Grown ups that cried and used bad language as if they were not taught any better. I am glad no of them made it. Who wants someone to win that has behavior problems and are hateful? Most of these same people were told lies to about them being to sing. What about them being hurt? Everybody knows that they could be the next to be booted off the show. They may be hurt, but they can go on to do other things. If nobody wants to take a chance to see what Americans think about their singing then the can stand in line at recording producers offices. Look at the ones that went on and had contracts with record producers. Jon Peter Lewis is a great example (yet he did not win on the third season) as well as Clay Aiken, and Chris Daughtry.
American Idol has nothing to do with the fact this show is being ruled by producers who wanted to see more money in their pockets rather than giving these talented male and female vocalists their opportunities to be successful in their career. They are going to make money regardless who wins. As far as Sanjaya he has improved over the weeks. Those that said we are on crack or something do not even know me. We have the right to our own opinion. It is your opinion that he is not good. I think he is going good for a 17 year old. He is not crushing the dreams of other (yes you said other) great singers this season. It is not terrible. He would have not gotten in the top 12 if he was so terrible. I voted for him because he really improved this week. As I said before my votes changes each week depending on who did the best performance. Some seems to being going backwards than improving.
I do believe everyone posting on here should not be calling people names because they vote for certain contestants.

Hate to say it but I think I agree a bit with Jolie about this being alot like AI season 3. It does make me say "I'm not watching it again next week" every week as I rarely agree with the 'send-homes'. Frustrating but still contagious I guess one could say.

Anyone with half a brain knows the votes don't count for anything..especially you, JPL....you know the contract states that the producers are able to change anything they want....after six seasons ..what does it take to grow a brain?

NO WAY SHOULD GINA HAVE BEEN VOTED OFF! Haley expected it and was already crying. Jordin burst into tears to see Gina voted off! I think it's time for Gina to perform duets with Billy Joel (the Mozart of Rock). My wife thinks she should sing with Meatloaf. GINA WAS RIPPED OFF by viewers with no eye for talent and no ear for music. The best to be said about Haley; Simon already said it, "she has great legs." But Gina is still the talent, the personality and the Star. GOOD LUCK ROCKER GIRL, YOU DESERVED MUCH BETTER FROM THE JUDGES AND THE IDIOT TONE DEAF AND BLIND VIEWERS. I guess looks prevailed over ability once more.

Been reading the Idol blog all night.

PROTEST/BOYCOTT TUESDAY - APRIL 10, 2007

Leave your porch lights on all night. Turn on your headlights while driving all day.

Don't watch and DON'T VOTE. Maybe if FOX can't count on 30 millions votes and viewers every week - they'll wise up to the voting situation.

SPREAD THE WORD - CALL YOUR LOCAL RADIO AND TV STATIONS.

PROTEST/ BOYCOTT TUESDAY.

Seeing as my family is from the Middle East, I want to thank you for that. As anyone on here knows, I can not stand Sangina. I find him to be a pitiful talent and a dog of a personality. The Washington Post called him a "wanna be drag queen".

Talk about his lack of talent or the way he parades around like he wants to be part of Michael Jackson's harem. But keep the racial slurs out of this.

Sad that Gina left. Haley is still my favorite. I will have to quit watching once Haley is gone.

There may have been better singers than Gina or Haley, but only those 2 can command a stage. Gina will be making a few dollars sooner or later singing for a rock band.

Haley will be a pop artist and sell a few songs. I'll be buying her music.

Jordin will probably win. Neither Melinda Doolittle or LaKisha have the stage presence to carry it off.

I think it's kinda of funny how people are saying how horrible this one is or how that one shouldn't have left. Since when have Americans become so qualified to judge other people singing on TV. Or maybe my real question is how can we put down another person for liking a particular persons singing? All the experts running around shouting, Sanjaya sucks how could you like him. Maybe just maybe, he doesn't suck to some people. Maybe these people aren't complete and utter idiots either, they just like who they like.
I personally would of liked Gina to stay, she was my favorite on the show. That being said should I blame Sanjaya because she's gone. I don't think so. I've seen more compassion bestowed upon criminals in the press then what he gets.

Ok, I do not hate Sanjaya, but I don't find anything about him entertaining and it's really sad that America (or the judges for that matter) aren't taking AI seriously... it's very disheartening to the fans that just love this show. I do however have an issue with all the Sanjaya voters, it seems they are all on crack or something, this guy is not good, his voters are crushing the dreams of other great singers this season, it's terrible. Not much I can do... I can't vote here in Canada anyways. I felt so sorry for Gina last night, so from this point on, I will watch for the 3 Idols I do like and for Ryan Seacrest because he's hot, thank god for him or I would stop watching. Also, I no longer care where Sanjaya ends up, let him win... we will see just how entertaining his is as The American Idol. If he's getting joked about now, just wait.
