Former 24 actress: Show is 'James Bond on crack'

by Meredith O'Brien, posted Apr 5th 2007 6:40PM

Michelle Dessler from 24New York Magazine -- which has been running a weekly 24 "Absurd-O-Meter" to mock scenes the writers find ridiculous -- interviewed actress Reiko Aylesworth whose character, Michelle Dessler, was killed at the beginning on the fifth season, shocking many fans.

When asked whether she'd ever read an unrealistic "What the hell?" type of script for a 24 episode, Aylesworth said yes, pointing to a season when her character was supposed to become suicidal in a single day. She added that a lot of proposed material that she and others found absurd didn't wind up in the episodes.

"The entire show is a series of, 'Oh come on!'s," Aylesworth said. "It's really James Bond on crack. They do have a lot of realistic elements, but the show is complete fantasy."

To all the "Reiko's just bitter" people: Read the top of the article!! It says she was specifically asked about absurdity in the show.... give her a break. What's wrong with answering an interview question honestly?

Some people also need to reread the part where it says most of the absurdities she found were never put into the show.

And, last but not least... Who hasn't thought of this show as James Bond on crack?

I may be wrong but...

I believe she's going to be back on the show.

They didn't kill off Michelle. Or Tony. It will turn out that their deaths were faked...for a very good reason. They knew something...something that could take down somebody or something. That's why they were attacked last season, and why they had to go into hiding.

The producers had planned this storyline where Tony and Michelle would disappear for a couple of seasons. But I think they gave Reiko Aylesworth an option to leave the series permantently if she didn't want to wait a couple of years to re-enter 24's canvas. And she took it, leaving to go do the much anticipated new Barry Levinson-Tom Fontana project "3 lbs". "3 lbs" was the most ballyhooed series pilot in production two years ago. It was a "sure thing", and I read an article that the BBC bought the rights to the series before the pilot had even been seen.

The pilot was a major bomb. CBS didn't pick it up, deciding to give the producers an opportunity to dump the actors and retool it. Which they did. "3 lbs" finally hit the air a few months ago with a new cast...it bombed. Talk about a show that was doomed from the start.

I think the producers shot the car bomb scene in a manner allowing them some flexibility to potentially bring Michelle back. Tony's going to be back, I have no doubt. I don't know if he'll back this season, but he will definitely reappear somewhere down the line. But I suspect Tony will not be alone.

She has a point. There are about three or four moments a season where you're just gazing into the television wondering where the hell they are going with this. My favorite example is when Jack and Chloe are in a shootout by an empty airport hanger and he calls up "the only person who can help us", which would be Tony -- who must have been hanging out at a nearby gas station waiting to get in the game. He was there after about three minutes. I laughed and damn near applauded when he showed up. It's just one of the things that I've learned to love and hate about the show.

I think Aroob's the one on crack. This season is nothing short of a disaster. Jack is a guest on his own show. It's absurd. The only thing that keeps me watching is knowing that despite the crappy season, the show resets every "day".

Well something about the show is on crack, I'm thinking it's the writing staff.

Hmmm.... yeah, this is typical. This is what you say when you get killed off the show. I never liked her. And to think, she dated Kiefer, got killed off, then all of a sudden the show becomes 'James Bond on crack'? Who says that? "24" is a show that continues to amaze me. The characters, the plot, the story, the acting... The little twists in the end is what is keeping "24" on TV...on FOX and this year, its their 6th season. Well excuse me, a show doesnt say on that long unless it has a large fan base. So people do love it. The torture scenes are ok. This expresses the dark side of reality that this DOES happen... but people dont know. ONE example is Abu Graib... Just think of all the "examples" that we dont know about.

'nuff said.

She should be the one talking to those groups that think the torture scenes in this show influence grown men. She can start with "Oh come on" and finish with "The show is complete fantasy".
