House: Fetal Position

House - Fetal Position
(S03E17)
Aside from the fact that we got some serious focus on the "feelings" that the House "team" has for each other, their jobs, and life in general, I've got to say that this was one of the better cases that we've seen on the show in some time - or least one really worth talking about in a recap. Yet again, House is also the place for guest appearances, with the All-American Rejects' lead singer, Tyson Ritter, playing himself having photos taken for a cover of some publication. I think I watch enough television to have seen a decline of this across the board, but it seems to be back in full effect on a lot of progams.

As for Chase and Cameron, who were "busted" on the makeout tip in the janitor's closet last week, there's no hanky panky going on for them at the moment, but there's something more than just them seeing each other as a sex object going on. Cuddy clearly has had a moment when she is listening to their patient, Emma, talking about being 42 and how that was too old to be having another go at having a baby. At the same time, House hearing that Cuddy would trust him as the person to save her baby (fetus!) was a bit touching, too.

Most curious this week was that there was either some serious effort to work in a political / moral / ethical belief discussion about pregnancy, abortion and the baby vs. fetus discussion that House seemed so prone to be part of, or it just felt that way to me. The meshing of Emma taking photos of what was "inside" her subjects and House's reaction to the fetus (baby!) when he grabbed the doctor's finger was absolutely perfect, though. Whatever your beliefs are on this particular touchy subject, I thought it was well done, purposeful or not.

Back to Cameron and Chase, though. Now that the cat is out of the proverbial bag, we could potentially see some "issues" arise with the crew, but at the least I think there is more of a "relationship" blossoming between the two doctors. The photos taken of the two of them showed something about each - to each other - which were surely placed there by Emma, who was quite smart when it comes to people, even though I thought there was a missed opportunity with her talking to Cuddy about House, or vice versa.

As the show drew to a close, I found myself wondering what would happen if House went on a multi-week vacation, even though new episdes are still set to come on for the next few weeks. As it turns out, his tearing up of the airline ticket solved that problem, so it's expected he'll show up randomly at work, and probably in just the nick of time. Or, maybe he'll just need his prescription filled and need to talk to Wilson.

Note: On a typical day, you'd have been reading this much earlier in the day. Unfortunately, my TiVo and my cable aren't having a good time together at the moment, and the digital cable channels aren't recording off the TV without a box, so I'm more than a bit behind in catching up on shows of late. Thanks for your patience!

As far as House watching the Travel Channel--can you imagine him meeting Anthony Bourdain? I think the universe would implode on itself. Bourdain is a somewhat better-socialized House.

"And Emma would have been a more believable portrait photographer if she used a Nikon ;)"

Actually Aron that statement would have been true if Emma were shooting with film. She's obviously using digital (especially if she's able to get prints that quickly in a hospital!) and by far the professional digital camera of choice is Canon. Nikon has yet to produce or penetrate the top end DSLR market and Canon has dominated since the beginning. Nitpicking I know but someone's got to do it!

C C, I'm also a big Anne Ramsay fan. She's also been on Close to Home a few times as a defense attorney recently.

I thought this episode of House was one of the better ones. It's great how they respresented the opposing views of fetus vs. baby without being preachy or forcing any particular viewpoint.

It was great how Cuddy and House kind of reversed roles with Cuddy being the one to break all the rules and force her viewpoint while House was the voice of reason and restraint.

Although the scene with the fetus reaching out of the womb and grasping House's finger was touching, I saw it comming a mile away.

great episode. i was getting so tired of those episodes that had public (and private) bathroom pissing scenes!!! those could go away and maybe wilson and house could talk in the breakroom or something?

Wow! What I love about House is how they can tell a story involving a potentially controversial subject (mother's life vs. fetus), that doesn't come off as a clunky "well, we want to show both sides of the conflict here" episode that other popular tv shows are guilty of producing. What sets House apart from it's medical drama cousins is how the cases are seen through THE CHARACTERS, and how they react to them. Seeing how House and Cuddy each approached the case, dealing with their emotions and beliefs, and realizing that they had to think outside of the box if they wanted to save this woman and her fetus, is what made this episode work.

Also, I just love the actress who played the patient. I think her name's Anne Ramsey? She played the dopey sister on Mad About You, and I saw her on the last season of Six Feet Under. She has instantaneous chemistry with all the actors she appears on screen with.

Of course House will father Cuddy's baby, that's what this episode was all about. I think though he will do the "cup" way.

PLus these episodes are also hinting at that one of the charaters will be fired for sleeping together. I hope it's the dumb woman and not the british woman... what he's a man, maybe he should start acting like it.

I definitely don't think House will father Cuddy's baby... I could see them doing it and Cuddy MAYBE getting pregnant.... or perhaps Cuddy getting pregnant and it MAYBE being House's baby. But I DEFINITELY don't think House will be the father.

Chase is going to be the one who ends up getting hurt because Cameron wants House to be jealous.

And Emma would have been a more believable portrait photographer if she used a Nikon ;)

They had almost the exact same scene not long ago on Scrubs, with a fetus grabbing Turk's finger. Only it wasn't as bloody and gross.

And I think for House, watching the Travel Channel and downing pills is a better vacation than any exotic locale.

That frame grab could have been a candidate for "Subtle Subtitles"!
