Fox offers actors pumping free gas to promote Drive

Drive -- Rochelle Aytes, Kevin Alejandro, Mircea Monroe, and Riley Smith
You get an email telling you that actors Nathan Fillion, Kristin Lehman, Taryn Manning, Kevin Alejandro, Dylan Baker and Emma Stone will be offering pumping free gas and squeegeeing windshields in Century City to promote the new Fox show Drive. What do you do, hotshot? WHAT DO YOU DO?

Well, I tell you ... with gas prices what they are now, I would have driven down if it was Heather Mills offering oil changes and a top-off in order to promote Dancing with the Stars. We're nudging $3.50 a gallon in Los Angeles for gas, and that's on a good day.

Check out the pictures and more after the jump. Drive premieres on April 15th on Fox.

I headed down to take one for the team, and scored these photos in the process. They had a souped up Charger on display, girls in skimpy Drive-wear handing out air fresheners, and the actors were on hand as well, although they didn't dirty their hands filling the tanks, except for one photo-op. They were also giving out driver's licenses featuring the actors characters, which I kept in case I need a good fake ID.

Fillion was a no-show, thereby robbing me of the chance to use the one-liner I'd been working on for the event. "Hey Nathan, Fillion-her-up please!" Zing. There were a few LA Browncoats on hand who were sad to go home Fillion-less as well. On hand to pump the gas were Kevin Alejandro, Mircea Monroe, Riley Smith, and Rochelle Aytes ... not sure what happened to the others. Maybe they were stuck Drive-ing in traffic.

Dreive -- No crazy Duke boys in sight.

Drive -- The keys were in this sucker.
The keys were in this sucker. I really wanted to slip in and take off. C'mon, Fox wouldn't have pressed charges, right? Talk about an ultimate promo for the show.

Drive -- Look! We're pumping gas! Cleaning windshields!

Drive -- Nothing says
Nothing says "Los Angeles" and "television" more than girls in short shorts pumping gas.

Drive -- The requisite gathering of the gas girls.

Drive -- Sadly, that is not my car, although it is for sale. Gimme this over a Mercedes any day.

Drive -- We came, we saw, we got free gas and a really terrible smelling air freshner. Fillion, you shall rue the day!

Last time gas was at 3,5$ a gallon (which is 0,97 cents a liter) was back in 1995.

Prices here rose up to 1.32 Euro a liter before the holidays (easter) - 5 cents within three days and as always the petrol mafia told customers that it was because of the high prices on the market because the US bought all the crude oil. Yeah right. Anyway, just to let you know how much that is per gallon: it's 4.2 Euro and with the current exchange rate of 1.33 Dollar per Euro that's 6.27 US$. You'd have to pay that here in germany if you came here and wanted to drive around in a rented car.

Now back in 1998 the exchange rate was the complete opposite (you only got 0.80 Dollar for a Euro) so 9 years ago you'd actually would pay less in germany than you pay in the US now.

So actually, considering that we have to pay 82% taxes per liter, gas in the US is actually much more expensive. The taxes added are used for pensions as well as eco stuff (8% of the 82% are eco-tax).

So people like Bill Maher now think it's time to add an extra tax to US petrol to save the environment.

In my opinion it's already too late IF you simply add it.

If you ask me, you get ripped off way more by your petrol companies than we do. We get ripped of by the state - we have to pay a lot of taxes, some of which are used to save the environment (yeah right) and pay for the pensions of our elderly (which is not me - duh!) so something is seriously wrong over there when I see profits of Exxon et al rise to all time highs.

But to get back on topic - this free gas makes me think of the late 70ies where there was an actual petrol crisis. I would not be _glad_ to get free gas and would not accociate thankfulness with the show for that gas - I would get pissed because of the situation.

So if you ask me, free tickets to a Nascar race or something like that could've been a better idea. This think just rubs it in if you ask me.

So I think it was a great idea to focus on the hot girls and overall give this posting an enjoyable spin. Great photos, thanks for posting them I love hot chicks next to great muscle cars nobody can afford anymore because of... nah let's just focus on the nice girls. *drool* :-D

Nathan Fillion fans would watch him cook breakfast, dig weeds, watch "American Idol," whatever he was up to at the time...

My favorite Nathan-related quote of all time, from his mom, the wonderfully named Cookie: "We're just glad he found something to do."

Do Nathan Fillion fans really want to see him pumping gas?

This stunt has to be the most symbolically humiliating thing imaginable. Asking an actor to pump gas? Talk about forcing a smile...

That looks distinctly like a Dodge Challenger, not a Charger.
