Regis coming back sooner than we thought?

by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 7th 2007 10:31AM

ReegeRegis Philbin, the iron man of daytime television and entertainment in general, looks to be on the mend after having triple-bypass surgery last month. The New York Post reports that not only is he walking again, but he's actually taking shopping trips with wife Joy, and told reporters that he was feeling well.

Originally he was supposed to be out for five weeks, but it's possible he could be back a little earlier than that (though it's already been three weeks, so I doubt he'll be back until the five weeks are up). He didn't ask me, but Regis? Take your time coming back. We know you're in great shape and a workhorse and all that, but really, you're 75 years old and just had major surgery. You don't need to be all excited listening to Kelly's stories about her kids and all those screaming fans.

On Monday, Martin Short will be the guest host on Live with Regis & Kelly, and then Pat Sajak takes over for the rest of the week. The following week, Jeff Probst is the guest host.

I am so glad that you are well and coming back soon. You and Kelly are the best....I have followed you forever and I have to tell you that the last years have been the best....you both compliment each other......you are on the mend and she will see to it that you do that......but please Regs.....enough with that Kathie Lee....she is GONE......let her be gone....NO ONE wants to hear about her or have her linked with you ANYMORE! God speed!!!

Get Well Regis and come back well rested.
I really enjoy Jeff Probst and Kelly together as hosts. They seem to have a natural chemistry that works well.

Regis, glad that you are feeling better. We miss you very much but the doctor is the best judge of when you can resume your morning show. I am a fan from way back.

I know that Regis Philbin wants to get back on TV,but he needs to rest a little bit more before going back live with Kelly Ripa. Fortunately, they went through two weeks of repeats because the staff might have been off for Easter. Michael Gelman and those producers would have been scrambling for guest hosts for those 10 shows, maybe as many as five different ones. Pat Sajak, the eponymous Howie Mandel and Jeff Probst have their own TV shows to tape and take part in. If Regis was a younger person, he'd return at this time, but he's 75 and needs to relax a little bit. I can take 8 more weeks or at least 40 more shows until he comes back. I think that he was doing way too much with NBC's America's Got Talent and the daytime show last summer. He has a iron-man mentality, but that stress had to have caught up with him. Besides, Kelly's been doing a good job holding the fort at Live.

I hope he takes his time in coming back. No one wants to see him relapse and be in worse shape then before! Reg, take your time, relax, rest and come back when your ready. We will be waiting for you, no matter how log it takes!!

I like Reg and he is really terrific. I think he is worried that they might find someone to replace him. So, of course, he would be naturally be wanting to get back in that chair as quickly as possible.

You'll notice that none of the temporary guest hosts would ever be considered as his ultimate replacement.
