The Amazing Race All-Stars: "The Way You Look, Yeah"

by Anna Johns, posted Apr 9th 2007 1:21AM
uchenna; joyce; the amazing race(S11E09) I can't believe we're already down to five teams. This week, the teams flew a whopping 5,500 miles from Krakow, Poland to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

What is wrong with people that they don't yield people? It's a tool in the game to get ahead of the other teams. And then, teams that do get yielded are personally insulted!

This week, we saw a strong team break down, another strong team make a fatal mistake and a team that has been stumbling finally found its footing.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

Oswald & Danny [4] Danny was so very wrong during the cookie challenge and then he was such a jerk to Oswald the rest of this leg! These two have been so light-hearted during this whole race that I suppose they were bound to self destruct eventually.

Uchenna & Joyce [ELIMINATED] These two are desperate to win another $1 million and they made a big, huge mistake this time. All the other teams knew that a one-hour connection time in Frankfurt, Germany was too close for comfort and opted for the safer connection in Paris. The gamble did not pay off for Uchenna & Joyce and they ended up stranded in Germany.

Charla & Mirna [2] I find Mirna to be such a hypocrite. She made derogatory remarks about the other teams and acts like she's playing a clean game? Just because she doesn't yield someone doesn't make her a good person or an honest racer. I had to laugh at her for gathering all those neighbors to help collect newspapers, though.

Eric & Danielle [3] Ok, enough of Danielle's boobs. Seriously. She wears those super-tight athletic tops that are too small for her bust size. Oh, and "Ha Ha" (she says, like Nelson on The Simpsons). I enjoyed seeing these two grumps get yielded by the blondes, even if it didn't matter because Uchenna & Joyce were so pathetically far behind. Oh, and Eric's "dirty hooker" remarks about the girls was funny the first time. Not when he kept saying it, though. I really wanted to see these two lose this week.

Dustin & Kandice [1] I love that these girls yielded Eric & Danielle, who took it personally and pouted. Puh-lease. These girls have been yielded before and they didn't take it personally. They know they're not in this face to make friends. They ran a really strong race this week by making good decisions about the challenges. Plus, they got to work their strongest attribute: their looks.

I am hoping for the cha chas or Charla and mirna to win becuase
they work hard and one of them should win the show so to show the world that someone who is no offense short and the guys who are life partners that they are just as good and strong and normal just like everyone else and they can over come the odds. good luck to both of them.

We were wondering why no penalty for taking a Taxi cab (to the cookie challenge) either. Maybe we need to ask the producers of the show.

Even though I didn't really like them on their first AR appearance, I think Oswald and Danny are a riot and I'm rooting for them this season. If you get a chance, go over to cbs.com and check out O&D's video clip talking about the cookie fiasco- really funny stuff. http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race11/bios/bio2.shtml

The instructions for the detour said they had to walk; Charla & Mirna took a taxi to both the cookie stall and cloth printing area. Why no penalty?

I personally feel that the Yields should be anonymously posted. The extra animosity is not necessary, and on several occasions in the past the yielding team has had the tables turned on them for no reason other than "revenge" by the yielded team.

If C&M DID get a penalty for not following the clue, it was obviously edited out because it had no bearing on the outcome. But it SHOULD have an impact on their departing time on the next leg. I wonder if they'll mention it next week.

Go BQ's, Go!
I am happy that I am not the only one annoyed at Mirna (I actually noticed that she has 3 forms of talking (all annoying), the normal conversation voice, the hyper-enuciated lawyer voice when she is recounting "facts" and then the one that she uses on non-english speaking people).
How anyone can take the yield personally is beyond me (or anything in this game.... at the beginning it was 1:11 of winning a million, at this point it is 1:5.. I would use every tool in the arsenal to win... how is using one of the tools provided to you "playing dirty"... that would be like taking a FFWD when it popped up....).

Grumpyoldman-

Interesting theory about the accent, but I have to disagree because its not like she talks like that the whole time (including when she's talking to other teams, etc.), only when she's talking to locals and such. Which is funny, because I think it actually makes it harder for them to understand her given that what english most of them would have heard would be a straight american or british accent, I would think.

Uchenna and Joyce explained on the Early Show this morning that their problem with the tight connection was really due to the fact that the printer broke when printing their connecting flight tickets in Krakow and the airline would not accept them onto the flight without printed boarding passes, which they had to jump through hoops to get when they arrived. They suggested that they were promised before they left Krakow that they would have no problem.

That said, I have always wondered if the show did "on the fly" decisions to make particular legs non-elimination, because it always seemed that they came up whenever a team had some sort of major travel difficulty. That's obviously now not the case.

It was weird to go through the majority of the show without being updated on what was going on with U & J, though.

As much as I would love to see Mirna and Eric off the show before any other teams, I have to say that Mirna is like Dr. Jeckyl. She is somewhat normal if she is unstressed, but once she feels under the gun she is completely Mr. Hyde. What a wacko.

That accent that Mirna assumes is just her real Armenian accent coming up in times of stress.
I'm wondering how come there wasn't a penalty for taking a taxi to the roadblock tasks when the clue explicitly told them to travel on foot???
Go Charla and Mirna!!
