The Daily Show: April 10, 2007

Jon StewartThe father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby is... YOU! Or me! Or Larry Birkhead. Jon Stewart briefly talked about the public's reaction to the new set. I thought the installation of Brian Williams' giant head was a nice touch. Adds a little extra pizzazz to the set, no? But really, I'm always glad to see Williams when he appears on The Daily Show, especially when it's a brief, pointless cameo such as this. Williams is such a good sport.

"Gaffe-fest '07": Don Imus said some pretty crummy things, and the news networks couldn't help but repeat it... a lot. Imus' attempt to suck up to Al Sharpton failed miserably, as well. Was anyone else reminded of that episode of South Park where Stan's dad had to literally kiss Jesse Jackson's ass? Senior Black Correspondent Larry Wilmore, Senior Woman Correspondent Samantha Bee, and Asshole Jason Jones elaborated on the issue. I liked how Jones needed a plate of wings in front of him to stress his character... because when I think of white assholes, I think hot wings.

"Oliver's Travels": Haha, I loved the opening graphic. Cute. The Ambassador's response to the "Fizz-rael" question was also quite smooth, only to be topped by John Oliver's "Awwww, yeah".

The night's guest was Walter Isaacson, author of Einstein: His Life and Universe. During this interview, I found myself fascinated by the shininess of the new desk. There's a really sharp reflection of the cups and hands on the surface and I can't take my eyes off of it. By the way, they got rid of the annoying swooshy noise from last night (it happened whenever the guest's name appeared onscreen), so that's a step forward. The room full of shadow people is still distracting, though. But then again, I'm also distracted by the shiny desk, so who am I to talk?

Jon/Stephen: None. Boo. Moment of Zen: Is Imus more offensive to women or African-Americans?
