Lost character flashbacks: Part eight
The newest set of Lost flashback videos has just been released. This week, we get a look at the back stories of Charlie, Sun & Jin, Hurley, and Jack. Charlie's fourth flashback is set during the early stages of Driveshaft's "hiatus." Charlie's dealer sets Charlie up to con a rich young woman named Lucy. After getting to know Lucy and her father, he ends up taking a job as a copier salesman. The drug dealer, angry about the broken agreement, cuts Charlie off and warns him about the difficult days that are ahead of him.
Sun and Jin's flashback combines clips from "House of the Rising Sun" and "...In Translation." Sun and Jin meet secretly during one of Mr. Paik's parties. Jin is there working as a waiter, and promises to marry Sun someday. Jin meets with Mr. Paik to ask for his blessing, and lies about his father's death. Mr. Paik gives the couple his consent on the condition that Jin comes to work for him.
The Hurley video continues with scenes from "Dave." During a session with Dr. Brooks, Hurley reads aloud his list of positive aspects of his life. Dr. Brooks points out that Hurley avoids discussing his appearance due to a weight-related accident that got a few people killed. Hurley hears the truth about how he punishes him self with food, and that Dave is a figment of his imagination. During a nighttime hallucination, Hurley locks Dave out for good (he hopes).
The sixth Jack flashback covers the events from "All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues." Jack tries to correct a surgical mistake made by a drunken Christian, but the patient dies. Later, Christian coolly asks Jack to go along with the cover-up, but breaks down and begs Jack to consider the greater good.
After watching this week's clips, it's clear that the Lost writers love the "going to work for the father-in-law" theme. Check back next week for another set of recaps! The flashbacks will be released weekly for the rest of the season.
