Save one show campaign results

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Apr 13th 2007 3:44PM
Save One ShowEvery year in April (aka the time networks executives meet to prepare the schedule for the following season), Kristin from E! tries to save one show. A few weeks before her column hits the Internet, she asks fans to vote for the show they want to save. With these results in hand, she writes a column devoted to the shows that got the most votes in the hope it'll help the networks make the right decision and save those shows. She will also write a support letter for the show that got the most votes.

Votes for the seventh annual "Save One Show" campaign poured in. Kristin reports that a record-breaking 6 millions votes were tallied up this year. Due to extraordinary voting circumstances (results dramatically changed in the last 24 hours polls were opened), E!'s Kristin will try to save not just one show but two. Somewhat not surprisingly, The CW's Tuesday night lineup won the "Save One Show" campaign: Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars.

The ten series that got the most votes on the poll are (in order from most to least): Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill, Supernatural, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Crossing Jordan, Friday Night Lights, How I Met Your Mother, What About Brian and Jericho.

In the coming days, Kristin will write to The CW head honchos to support both shows and will also include messages fans wrote.

Do you agree with those "Save One Show" results? I hope that Veronica Mars sticks around for another season.

The last time I was so devestated by a show cancellation was when the original trek was cancelled. The Gilmore Girls is a great show that has a huge cast of wonderful characters. What about all the stories that happen in Stars Hollow. I love that town and the characters in it. It may be a good place to end the show, but I could have used a little more time to adjust to the fact that it was not going to be picked up.

OTH is the best.
I heard that there was cheating by fans of veronica mars and gilmore girls but founders of this poll didn`t notice it, anyway I think that this poll is not actual display of situation.
Why ?
The reasons are simple:
First I and the big part of fans didnt know for this poll.

Secundly maybe in America every man has internet but many fans of some other parts of world may not have an internet. For example in my clas only 30%
of students have internet other do not have internet and they cant vote.(I must note that we are all fans of one tree hill and only one tree hill)

And third of course cheating by fans of veronica mars and gilmore girls.(I dont hate thease shows but they become boring and one tree hill is more tense then them.)

LET TREE HILL LIVE.

Sorry for mistakes I am not so good in Eanglish.

Many greeting from Knin - Croatia.

I think she got it right. I am a big fan of Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars. I get angry every year when they pull off the new episodes for several weeks, and then they finally put on some new ones. I noticed that this week a new GG was on, but Veronica was nowhere to be found. At least these two shows are a bit different than most of the stuff that's on the tube. Plus, I live in Ct, and it's interesting to hear them mention local places on GG lol. Also am a big fan of Kelly Bishop..she should be featured in more episodes..i saw her twice in the original Chorus Line on B'way!

Save Friday Night Lights - Gilmore Girls going in the wrong direction. No firm story line any more - Luke and Lorilei should have been ......

Veronica Mars was good, but the shows writing has suffered dramatically since the first season. It seems cruel to continue to beat that once noble, now dead horse.

One Tree Hill has been dependably mediocre for it's entire run. Plus it's a nice throwback to what the WB has always been surprisingly good at in shows like 7th Heaven and Dawson's Creek--teen angst.

The real gem here is Supernatural. That's a show that has so much room to grow. After a stellar first season, it only continues to improve. The acting is great, the "look" of the show is something really different (much higher budget feel then most of the stuff the CW churns out), the storylines are consistently action and emotion packed and interesting. Not to mention, with Smallville due for only one more season, it's the last that the CW has left that still sticks with the niche telivision that both the WB and UPN built their original audience on--Sci Fi/Fantasy. Shows like the Star Treks, Buffy, Angel, Roswell, Charmed, Smallville. It'll be really the end of an era if the CW cancels this budding show.

I am a bit curious why they are limiting the shows to drama, teen drama and comedy. I mean considering the competition teen drama is always sure to win, they have always had the most loyal fanbase of all the genres. I remember the Roswell Tabasco campaign and even so that show wasn't _that_ good. But people when out of their houses to see another season.
I think sci-fi shows would fit in this list too. Firefly and Dresden files have somewhat similar strong fanbases that would definitely take time to vote online for their show.

Now that said I love the first season of Veronica Mars to death. The wit, the snark, the drama, the mysteries. They are still unmatched. I like the mysteries of the third season, but I miss the feeling that there is an evil mastermind at work behind the scenes. Even so I felt that the second season also fell short of the first. I know its hard for any series, but instead of becoming a shadow of its former self, I wish it would grow more into something bigger. Not that I watched that many episodes of Smallville, but I have a feeling that is what happened with it. Should they cancel VM? I don't know really, its good and as much as I love seeing Kirsten Bell on TV, its not what it used to be. I am not sure going FBI will spice it up enough. I think it might have been better if they actually forgot about time passing and stayed in the high-school setting for ever. I mean isn't that what we somehow all wishes in some weird twisted way, that high-school would stay part of us forever. And that is why we keep watching these teen dramas years after our graduation.
