Kitty Carlisle Hart fans will have to stay up for tribute

by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 20th 2007 9:01AM

To Tell The TruthWe told you the other day that longtime To Tell The Truth panelist and patron of the arts Kitty Carlisle Hart had died at 96, and one of us here mentioned that GSN will probably air a tribute to her. And in fact, they are going to give her a tribute this weekend.

At 3AM.

Yup, that's right. GSN is going to air Carlisle Hart's very first appearance on the game show at 3AM Monday morning.

It's a black and white episode of the show from March 5, 1957, which also features panelists Ralph Bellamy, Polly Bergen, and Hy Gardner joining host Bud Collyer. Then at 3:30, they're going to air a color ep from 1973 that features her son in disguise as one of the imposters. Sounds like fun, but why do it in the middle of the night when everyone's asleep? Are they thinking, "oh, what's the difference, everyone can just TiVo it?"

I think this is just horrible. Kitty Carlisle is an icon in not only the world of gameshows but also stage, music, and film. Her memory deserves a much greater tribute. Carlisle's work was of much greater quality that so many of the ridiculously boring shows GSN airs during primetime!

Hearing the name "Kitty Carlisle" announced when I was crawling on the carpet and my mom was watching soaps and game shows was a fond memory that I made mention of in my personal blog.

Hey... don't forget she was also a great patron of the arts who received an award from the first President Bush!

I think that this is an insult to the memory of Kitty Carlisle Hart. She was a pioneer panelist among game shows. Instead of showing all of those poker games and other stuff they now show, GSN could have had a whole To Tell The Truth marathon. At least they could have put the tribute earlier. Not everyone can Tivo it. They're almost actually saying that she wasn't much of anything but we'll throw some of those who liked her a bone. That's history. How many will be wanting to see the shows they're showing now 50 years from now?
